25M Xbox Game Pass Subscribers, Nearly The Entire Population of Australia

BY JC Paredes 4 years AGO 2 MIN READ

Just a few hours ago we reported that Microsoft was negotiating a deal with Activision-Blizzard-King to acquire the company for a total of almost $70 billion. Additionally, we now have some clarity on the future of Game Pass thanks to this announcement!

Like Bethesda, Activision-Blizzard games will be included in the Game Pass in the future. With this addition of Starfield, Doom, Fallout, and Skyrim, the library should gain a whole new depth. Many doubts remain concerning the direction of the studios, the employees, and even the administration of currently running projects, as the acquisition has not yet been formalized.

  • Microsoft’s Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, issued a press statement announcing the agreement in principle. Meanwhile, Activision Blizzard / King will continue to operate autonomously, with Bobby Kotick remaining as CEO. We also discover that the company plans to incorporate as many titles as possible into its Game Pass service once everything is in order.
  • Since there are now 25 million subscribers, it’s nearly the entire population of Australia (2020). According to the most recent official figures, Game Pass was at 18 million subscribers in January 2021;  Daniel Ahmad reported in October that 20 million players had registered. Even if there was a little less growth than expected, it was still very promising.

“Upon close, we will offer as many Activision Blizzard games as we can within Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass, both new titles and games from Activision Blizzard’s incredible catalog. We also announced today that Game Pass now has more than 25 million subscribers. As always, we look forward to continuing to add more value and more great games to Game Pass.”
– Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming

Since March 2021, I've worn two hats at Spiel Times: a writer and a Managing Editor. In my writing role, I've earned recognition from Wikipedia and Nev Schulman (Catfish TV Show host) for my insightful analysis and engaging narrative style. I'm passionate about all things gaming, with a keen eye for detail and a knack for uncovering hidden secrets within games. My gaming journey began at a young age, captivated by titles like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider. Today, I enjoy exploring open-world RPGs and MMORPGs, consumed by their lore and crafting theories about their narratives. I'm also drawn to the suspenseful atmosphere of horror games and the intricate narratives of crime-themed titles, bringing a unique perspective to my writing. Beyond gaming, I have a fascination with anything unexplained and chilling, a passion that often spills over into my exploration of horror games. When I'm not engrossed in a virtual world, you can find me curled up and spending time with my adorable doggy sidekick, Teemo. As Managing Editor, I'm committed to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for our writing team. I communicate openly with my team members, addressing any content-related issues and providing guidance to help them excel.
