In a jaw-dropping and unexpected move, Microsoft has almost closed the deal to acquire Activision for a whopping $68.7 Billion. Activision has been in a lot of trouble in the recent past due to the sexual harassment cases going against its employees. Seems like they can now bid farewell to their troubles as Microsoft will be taking things over as soon as the deal closes. You can read more about the deal here. All this raises a very important question, which is, what will be the future of Activision’s games on PS5?
Activision Games and Playstation
From PC to Xbox 360, to PS4, and now to PS5 and Xbox Series X, Call of Duty has always been one of the biggest gaming titles of our generation. Call of Duty games has a huge player base on both Playstation 4 and 5. These games include Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Warzone, and the latest season Call of Duty: Vanguard.
In fact, PlayStation sales for Call of Duty: Vanguard physical version accounted for over 70% of its total sales. Activision’s shooter primary sales figures included PS5 accounting for 41% of sales, PS4 29%, Xbox One 19%, and Xbox Series X and S 11%. That alone shows how many active players of Call of Duty use Playstation consoles for their gaming experience.
So, having such an impressively huge community of players on PS consoles, is the future of Activision games threatened? Will the COD games discontinue on PS consoles and become Xbox Exclusive now that Microsoft will acquire Activision?
Won’t Be a Good Move!
The section above showcases how important PS community is for the COD games, so discontinuing them on PS will not make much sense. But Microsoft has done this in the past so it might do it again. We are already dealing with the consequences of Microsoft acquiring Bethesda. As you might know, Elder Scrolls 6 will not be coming out for PS5 and will be an Xbox and PC exclusive.
The same might happen to Call of Duty and Diablo II in the future as the competition between Microsoft and Sony is heightening. But as mentioned above, it will not be a good move for Activision as they will lose out on a significant part of their community. Not to mention, the huge amount of money they’ll be losing. Imagine losing out on 70% of revenue from physical sales alone due to one miscalculation and to be a frank stupid move.
The fate of these games on Playstation dangles on the edge as Microsoft nears the closing of this gigantic deal. All we can do as fans is keep our fingers crossed and hope that they make a sensible decision. Rest is up to the developers and the gaming giant Microsoft. While it will be a scary move for many of you out there, we’ll ask you to keep calm until further information on the same arrives.

This is definitely a shocker, but I would guess that we have atleast year on the servers until the next call of duty comes out or sony will be coughing up some money to stay on the servers, I mean we did have MLB 21 made by Playstation studios with a Playstation studios logo on the xbox case so they can make deals with each other
We definitely got some time but t seems kinda inevitable
