Xbox Series X|S: Best Sales Performance (March); Beats PS5 and Switch
During the month of March and the first quarter of 2022, Xbox Series X|S console sales generated the highest revenue in the United States.
NDP Group released a new market sales report this week. Perhaps one of the most eye-catching highlights is this: Microsoft’s next-generation consoles have earned the most in dollars. However, Nintendo’s Switch has once again been the most popular system bought.
Strong Sales Record for Xbox (March 2022)
NDP Group CEO and analyst Mat Piscatella said Xbox has had a terrific month. Because of the development of its supply chain, Xbox has maintained to reach a specific portion of the week. According to Piscatella, the economy is still plagued by stock issues, a challenge we see in other areas as well. As a result of Xbox Series X|S’s strong sales, the brand had its best March in unit sales since 2011 (in units) and 2014 (in sales).

Low Sales: Video Games, Hardware, and Accessories
There is a striking contrast between the Xbox’s success and the overall video game market in the United States – we see a 15% drop in consumer spending in March. Video games, hardware, and accessories have all seen a decrease in sales. This has resulted in a decrease of 8% in the first quarter of 2022, to $13.9 billion dollars. While video game sales dropped by 24% from last year to $515 million, console sales dropped by 15% to $1.2 billion, according to NPD Group.

Poor data overall, but rather good in individual circumstances.
A good example is Elden Ring. FromSoftware’s title was the best-selling video game in the United States in March on every platform (PlayStation, Xbox, and PC).
Elden Ring is also the best-selling video game thus far in 2022 and only comes in second place in the ranking of best-selling titles in the previous 12 months. Furthermore, Matt Piscatella notes that the game has recorded an increase in revenues after its release in February, something quite exceptional in the video game industry.
