2. Elden Ring
Are you really a gamer if you haven’t heard of Elden Ring yet? It has been 8 months since the game was released yet it can still get the video game community buzzing. Most gamers also know Elden Ring as the video game that broke the Internet. With its fantastic lore and overall gameplay, this game has left a significant imprint on the hearts of the players. It’s no surprise that a game like Elden Ring is one of the contenders for the Game of the Year award this 2022. Words alone are not enough to give justice to the masterpiece that is Elden Ring; firsthand experience of the game will do.
3. God of War: Ragnarok
It is startling how God Of War: Ragnarok became one of the contenders for Game of the Year this 2022. A lot of fans were worried that it won’t be eligible for Game of the Year in 2022 because of its late release date but thankfully, it was able to do so. Will we see Santa Monica Studio nab another award for GOTY the same way they did in 2021 with God of War 2018? The graphics, music, gameplay, and adrenaline rush that comes with playing Ragnarok are some of the main reasons why this is a tough contender for Game of the Year 2022. However, there is one dilemma with players’ opinions regarding God of War: Ragnarok — it is a PlayStation-exclusive game.
4. Horizon Forbidden West
Another game exclusive for players on the PlayStation platforms is a contender for the Game of the Year award this 2022. When Horizon Forbidden West was announced as one of the nominees, fans must have been elated since the video game community collectively recognizes how much Forbidden West has improved from its predecessor. Players’ positive experience with the game will definitely be one of their main motivations in voting for Horizon Forbidden West to win Game of the Year this 2022.
5. Stray
The only indie game to be nominated for GOTY at The Game Awards 2022 is Stray. At release, a lot of reviewers and players praised it for its wonderful storytelling and heartwarming animations. In addition to its rich story, Stray didn’t fall short in capturing the hearts of gamers — cat and dog lovers alike.
6. Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the only game from Nintendo that is a contender for the 2022 Game of the Year award. In this game, challenges, rewards, skills, and swift controls go hand in hand but despite it being a wonderful game, we’re not sure it has more to offer compared to the other contenders for GOTY. On the flip side, some fans are predicting that even though Xenoblade Chronicles 3 won’t win Game of the Year, it’s a strong choice for Best Music.
