Arsenal set to break the bank for Declan Rice £105m bid: Will it pay off?

Arsenal are in the pole position to sign English sensation Declan Rice from West Ham. They have decided to go all-out to match West Ham’s asking price this time. The Gunners are willing to pay £100 million plus £5 million in add-ons for the midfielder. Man City have already backed out of the race after their bid for £90 million was rejected. The deal is almost done, according to Fabrizio Romano.

This transfer would see the West Ham captain becoming Premier League’s most expensive British player, narrowly beating Jack Grealish because of the £5 million add-ons. He will also be the second most expensive player in the competition as his price tag falls just £1 million short of Argentina’s young talent Enzo Fernandez playing for Chelsea. Additionally, Rice would be Arsenal’s most expensive player of all time.

Why is Arsenal breaking the bank and paying £105 million?

  • Arsenal had been eyeing this move since Christmas. So it is evitable that signing this particular player has been one of their top priorities for a long time.
  • The Gunners will be returning to the Champions League after six long seasons. The last time they qualified for this competition, Leicester was the English champion. Now, they are relegated.
  • That alone gives us a good idea of the time period without UCL football in the Emirates stadium.

  • For that reason, Arsenal will be looking to enter the competition with a solid squad. They have already confirmed the signing of Havertz from their London rival Chelsea. Pulling a second player from another London rival would certainly give their fans bragging rights within the city.
  • Arsenal are in desperate need of defensive players. Their slip from the PL table last season was a clear result of their defensive flaws during the last few matches. A competent defensive midfielder like Rice would fulfill that need while managing to hold the midfield at the same time.

  • We can possibly see important players like Xhaka and Partey leaving the club. These departures should contribute to a portion of the fees for the new signings.
  • Arsenal are reportedly interested in young prospect Lavia from Southampton. He can be a backup for Declan and might be a good substitute for providing relief to Rice after he has played 75-80 minutes in a game.

Will the move pay off?

  • Declan is a quality player who has already proven himself in the Premier League and in an English jersey. He has been playing at a high level for the past six seasons.
  • Rice is fairly consistent, and he is not prone to injury. He has also received a notable amount of playtime in his former club.

  • His playstyle resonates with Arteta’s football philosophy. The player’s work rate and midfield holding ability will certainly provide value to a team like Arsenal. He is a ball-winner like Kante and can be deployed for pressing. He also possesses a great sense of positioning.
  • Rice is one of the hottest prospects in the world of football right now. His age of 24 means he is at the prime of his career. He is old enough with significant experience and young enough to be physically mobile, with many playing years ahead of him. Going for him right now should be a great decision.

Is Rice going to cook in an Arsenal shirt? We have to wait till the start of next season to get the answer. Until then, enjoy the transfer saga, and let us know about your favorite transfers during this window.
