Finding Lady Esther on the Mountain Pass in Baldur’s Gate 3 opens up an interesting side quest. She wants you to steal a Githyanki egg from nearby Creche Y’llek and give it to her so she can pass it on to the Society of Brilliance. This seems sketchy at first glance, but it’s possible to complete this quest without upsetting Lae’zel or the Githyankis. Here’s a guide on how to do the Githyanki Egg Quest in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Should you give Githyanki Egg to Lady Esther in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Locating Lady Esther and Getting Excellent Gear
Lady Esther can be found in a cul-de-sac off the mountain pass leading to Rosymorn Monastery. She sells excellent gear, including the Graceful Cloth armor, which grants +2 Dexterity and an advantage on Dexterity checks. It’s a good idea to immediately buy anything you need from her, as her shop closes after completing her quest.
You can initially refuse Lady Esther’s request without locking yourself out of the quest. This avoids immediate disapproval from Lae’zel if she’s in your party.
Sneaking into the Githyanki Creche
There’s a fairly direct route from Lady Esther to the monastery. You’ll need to pass a Strength check to free a stuck gondola or take the lower cliffside path. The broken windows on the monastery’s west side provide access. Fighting through Kobolds and other enemies here can be avoided by taking the lower rear path instead.

Optional exploration of the upper floors reveals the start of the Blood of Lathander quest with a reward at the end.
Stealing the Egg or Persuading the Guardian
The hatching chamber in Creche Y’llek contains the Githyanki egg, surrounded by an acid pool. While it’s possible to steal the egg by jumping across, a better option is talking to Varsh Ko’kuu, the guardian. With successful Insight and Persuasion checks, he will give you the egg willingly.
Giving an Owlbear Egg Instead
You could substitute an Owlbear egg to complete the quest, but rescuing the Owlbear cub seems mutually exclusive with acquiring its egg. The long-term consequences of this deception are currently unknown.
Refusing to Give the Egg to Lady Esther
Once you have the Githyanki egg, you can refuse to hand it over to Lady Esther. She will become hostile if you do this. It’s unclear if keeping the egg has benefits later in the game.
Takeaways
- Speak to Lady Esther early to buy excellent armor from her shop before it closes.
- Sneak into the monastery through broken windows on the west side to avoid fights.
- Persuade the Githyanki guardian Varsh Ko’kuu to give you an egg willingly.
- Don’t substitute an Owlbear egg; you’d have to harm the cub to get it.
- Refusing to give the egg to Lady Esther makes her hostile, with long-term consequences unknown.
