BLACKPINK and their solo careers have received the same level of love and appreciation from their fans, the BLINKs. In this article, we’ll try to dive into the BLACKPINK members and their solo endeavors when the worst-case scenario happens: they break up. While many wish for the group to stay together, the media or fans have no idea what’s next for the global K-pop girl group. Will we hear something from YG Entertainment about the BLACKPINK contract renewal soon? Let’s try to find out what could happen.
Last August 8, 2023, the four-member girl group celebrated their 7th debut anniversary. This milestone also marks their contract expiration. As of this writing, it’s been two months since the contracts of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa with YG Entertainment ended. Fans await official news on what awaits the group’s future, but we’re pretty sure each member faces jampacked solo schedules right now.
BLACKPINK: History and their Solo Careers
In 2016, YG Entertainment birthed a new girl group, and shortly after 2NE1’s disbandment happened. Despite the latter’s impact on the K-pop industry, it wasn’t an easy road for BLACKPINK. After debuting with WHISTLE and releasing BOOMBAYAH, PLAYING WITH FIRE, and STAY, the girl group’s discography has always been slow-growing. In 2017, BLACKPINK only released a single track, As If It’s Your Last.
However, things started to take off when BLACKPINK and YG Entertainment released their EP, SQUARE UP, with the title track DDU-DU DDU-DU. This 2018 track (and album) launched global fame for the now-global K-pop girl group.
A few months after, the first-ever BLACKPINK soloist member debuted, AKA JENNIE. With her chart-topping track, SOLO, K-pop fans await the next of the BLACKPINK and their solo careers.
But it was a tough time before another member, Rosé, entered the soloist route.
- In 2021, while the global pandemic has started laying low, BLACKPINK’s main vocalist debuted with the -R- album.
- On The Ground and Gone took BLINKs’ playlist on a roll.
Following Rosé’s acoustic tracks comes the maknae’s dancing tunes.
- In the third quarter of 2021, Lisa dropped her single debut album, LALISA, with the same title track and MONEY as her b-side.
After long years of waiting, BLINKs rejoiced with the arrival of the last BLACKPINK member’s solo debut.
- Jisoo dropped her single debut album, ME, with FLOWER as her title track and All Eyes On Me as the b-side.
Recently, JENNIE made a solo comeback with her track, You & Me.
- Fans first heard of the song during their BORN PINK World Tour, as the group’s main rapper performed it.
- Aside from the concerts, JENNIE also surprised the Coachella crowd with her You & Me performance.
The million-dollar question remains: In any case that the BLACKPINK members choose to part ways, will all four members remain successful?
Will the BLACKPINK members’ solo careers be successful?
Undoubtedly, BLACKPINK cemented their name as a group together. As the girl group continued to blow up, each member built their reputation individually.
Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa made their names known across the globe, not just as a K-pop girl group but as ambassadors, models, and many more. Let’s list who we think will make the biggest name among the four.
4) Rosé
If not music, where else would BLACKPINK’s main vocalist go? If Rosé considers pausing her singing career, we’re confident she can work behind the cameras and microphones.
Songwriting and music production would automatically be Roséanne’s possible paths. Not to mention, Yves Saint Laurent, Tiffany & Co, and RIMOWA also have her as one of the brands’ faces.
We’re not going to lie; the music industry is where we see Rosé, no matter what happens. There’s this particular connection and sparks between the two that don’t just die down. Honestly, who doesn’t want to hear more of Rosie’s voice, musicality, and talent in general? There are a lot of genres to try and a lot of artists she can collaborate with.
Who knows? Maybe we can see a Taylor Swift and Rosé collab if fate permits it. We can’t wait for that to happen! Perhaps a model Roseanne is not entirely out of the picture, and a businesswoman Rosé and YouTuber Rosé, too. Hmm, interesting.
BLACKPINK and solo career: Rosé will succeed as a soloist and stay in the music industry.
3) Jisoo
Whether the group continues as a whole or not, Jisoo would still be one of the most looked-up idols in the Korean industry. With her wit and funny antics, fans can’t stop admiring the visual of BLACKPINK.
But that’s not all; aside from luxury brands under her belt, Cartier and Dior, Jisoo proved that she could also be a successful soloist in her debut.
And in case she doesn’t wish to pursue her idol career, everyone knows how capable Kim Jisoo is of acting. She debuted with a cameo on Arthdal Chronicles, and people knew she had the potential. This leads to her first-ever lead role with actor Jung Hae In in 2021’s Snowdrop.
While she gets better (and could even reach the best) in the acting side, Jisoo has reportedly been cast as part of a new zombie K-drama, Influenza. She stars along with actor Park Jung Min, and we can’t wait for it to come! She’ll also be making her silver screen debut in the upcoming Dr Cheon and Lost Talisman.
BLACKPINK and solo career: Jisoo will have a flourishing career, mainly in acting. She may drop albums from time to time, but perhaps we can hear a lot of K-drama official soundtracks (OSTs).
2) Jennie
Among all the BLACKPINK members, we can say Jennie has been one of the members with the most fans. Seriously, who wouldn’t love her charisma and appeal when performing? Even her pictures scream sexy and charming.
With her profound aura but warm presence, it’s easy to get stuck in the Jennie stan thing for life. When she starts rapping, we’re pretty sure many people in the music industry would want to have a collaboration chance with her.
Calvin Klein, Gentle Monster… she’s called Human Chanel for a reason. Jennie’s oozing charms attracted a lot of brands she works with right now. Aside from the music industry, did we mention her first acting stint in HBO’s The Idol? And if she figures to stay in the music world, locally and internationally, Jennie could be bigger, NGL.
With all these things, she also manages her YouTube account and another Instagram account featuring her own photos. Check out her vlogs and photography account if you have time!
BLACKPINK and solo career: Jennie will have a successful path ahead. With all the connections she earned, she will succeed in music and acting if given more chances.
1) Lisa
Lastly, this shouldn’t be a discussion because we can all say the same. Let’s turn it around and start with the possibility.
BLACKPINK and solo career: Lisa will be one of the biggest stars. Having a vast fandom is an advantage, but having the charms and talents, a complete package? That’s how Lalisa will make the world know her name.
No, we’re in no way biased (OT4 all the way!), but we just know that BLACKPINK’s maknae will effortlessly make it big. There is something about Lisa that would have anyone hooked.
She recently graced the prestigious Crazy Horse Paris, and we may have fainted just by the photos she posted. Lisa is very good at dancing, and in every genre she’ll be in, Lalisa will surely slay. Just like Rosé with music, it’s similar to Lisa and dancing and performing.
Having CELINE under her belt and maybe a line of a few more brands, who wouldn’t know Lisa at this point? Perhaps we can also see her try modeling and explore more of her photography skills. But with all that, we can’t seem to think of Lisa without dancing and rapping because it actually runs in her blood (and her fans, too, just to see her perform!)
But what happens if the BLACKPINK contract renewal won’t push through?
We’re seeing and believing that every BLACKPINK member will do great with their respective solo careers. But in any case, will we see them together again if they plan to break up for now? An absolute yes. We don’t know; there’s just this sense of hope with BLACKPINK, and as fans, we’re hoping that the four girls feel the same, too.
They might miss each other, too, in the long run, and the fans would always wish for them to get back together if that happens.
- If the worst-case scenario happens, indeed, BLINKs would hope for the best for Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. All the support for each girl would be sent, especially with the fanbase they built together.
- K-pop groups, which separate ways, always find a way to gather once in a while for their loyal fans, just like second-generation’s SNSD and third-generation’s MAMAMOO.
- Having a BLACKPINK reunion and comeback wouldn’t be an impossible thing to happen, even if the members decide to part ways for now. It’s evident how these four girls became a home to their fans and, of course, a family to each other. We can’t wait to know what the future awaits for everyone!
With all those possibilities, at this point, we hope that we can hear official news from the girls or YG Entertainment. It’s been a few months since the girls’ contracts ended, and up until now, no announcement has been made. We hope to see more of BLACKPINK in the future, but we also wish for their happiness and the best. BLACKPINK and BLINKs forever!
