Crates Will No Longer Be A Part Of Rocket League By Year End
Epic Games recently acquired indie developer Psyonix, the developer of Rocket League, one of the biggest eSports titles in the world. While we expected that Rocket League will be free to play after this development, Psyonix today announced that crates will be leaving the game by year-end, instead.
This is a pretty surprising move undertaken by the team, considering that a lot of revenue comes from key sales. There was a lot of speculation from the community hinting towards the fact that the game will be made free to play, considering the fact that the Epic acquisition would result in a lot of funding for Psyonix. However, we see a rather different development here.
This move means “all paid, randomized Crates from Rocket League” will be replaced “with a system that shows the exact items you’re buying in advance.” This is similar to Fornite Save the World. Rocket Pass Premium, DLC Cars, and Esports Shop items, on the other hand, will continue to be offered for direct purchase alongside the new system.
