BCCI has released the schedule of IPL 2022. It will start on 26th March 2022. Everyone is excited to watch their favorite team as well as players in the tournament. But there is a piece of bad news for the Delhi Capitals fans. The star bowler Anrich Nortje is likely to miss the entire tournament due to a persistent hip injury. This will be a big blow for the Capitals.
Nortje’s Injury
The South African pacer hasn’t played in the last four months, having last played his trade for South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2021. Thereafter, due to a “persistent” hip injury, he missed the home series against India and the overseas Tests against New Zealand.

Moreover, Nortje also hasn’t been included in the Proteas squad for the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. The series will be played from 18th March to 23th in Centurion and Johannesburg. CSA’s ( Cricket South Africa) selection convenor, Victor Mpitsang, has revealed that it would be tough for Nortje to play in the IPL.
Mpitsang quoted “It’s probably going to be difficult [for Nortje to go to the IPL]. He has not really been bowling much since November. We don’t have any timeframe for his return. It’s been a long one. The medical team will give advice on whether he will be cleared for the IPL,”
Huge Loss For Capitals
The Capitals retained four players ahead of the mega auction, Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel, and Nortje, who would earn INR 6 crores in the upcoming season. If he is unable to make it to the IPL then it would be a great loss for the Capitals.

CSA’s chief medical officer Dr. Shuaib Manjra said that “He is currently being investigated. He has been seen by three different orthopedic surgeons. He is struggling with loading and doing most of the other rehab work.”
This statement makes clear that he hasn’t recovered from his injury yet. Moreover, CSA medical team is also unwilling to clear the paceman as well. On the other hand, Lungi Ngidi is also likely to miss at least 3 weeks of IPL owing to national duty.
