Doom Eternal Will Have Zero Microtransactions, XP will be used for Cosmetics
If you were annoyed by the recent trend in the gaming industry, where $60 games had micro-transactions, worry not, there is still a lot of hope in the gaming industry. And the ray of hope here is no other than id Software. Doom Eternal will have “Zero micro-transactions”, as per the latest reveal.
In a Facebook group named DOOM 2016/Eternal Fan Club (private group) Creative Director Hugo Martin revealed, that the game will not have any micro-transactions. He says” No store. Nothing you can unlock in Eternal with XP has anything to do with player abilities or content that would impact your game in any way. The only thing you can unlock with XP is COSMETICS. These cosmetics have no impact on how you play, they just look cool. Eternal is a $60 game, not a free to play game or mobile game – we are giving you a complete experience with no store just like you’d expect. Unlocking skins with XP is a part of the experience if you care about that stuff or you can completely ignore it and it will have no impact on your experience AT ALL and it’s all free.”
Considering the fact that micro-transactions in $60 games is becoming a common norm in the gaming industry, this a pretty welcome move by id Software. It gives access to the players all aspects of the game, without paying a premium, which is a pretty good thing. Let’s hope other AAA devs learn from this move.
