Market leader e-xpress Interactive announced a distribution partnership with Electronic Arts(EA) via an email earlier today. The distribution agreement, however, is only for packaged goods(i.e. physical copies) and not digital.
But what does this partnership mean to general consumers and gamers across the country?
Well, first of all, you won’t need to buy EA games exclusively from Amazon India. All those FIFA, Need for Speed, Battlefield and Sims games will now be available at your nearest stores or at any other online retailer, most prominently on e-xpress-owned Games The Shop.
“We are delighted to make this announcement,” said Mr Amit Khemani, Founder of e-xpress Interactive. “Electronic Arts is one of the world’s leading video game publishers and delivers some of the best content to consumers. Their commitment, innovation and passion to create high-quality content is admired by gamers across the world and in India. Through this partnership, we will work hard to support their success in our country”.
Amazon India was the distributor for EA games up until now. They announced the exclusive deal during late 2015, starting with FIFA 16, and called the partnership “a validation of the faith customers and sellers place” on their brand.
Issuing an official statement to NDTV Gadgets 360, Amazon India’s Director Category Management, Mr Noor Patel said, “We are very excited to be the partner of choice for EA’s gaming portfolio in India. We are the fastest growing e-commerce platform in the country today and India’s largest video gaming store. This partnership is a validation of the faith customers and sellers place on our brand. This partnership gives us the opportunity to forge deeper engagement with gaming enthusiasts across the country and aligns with our vision of offering customers in India the widest selection at low prices, fast and reliable delivery and a trustworthy shopping experience.”
The term of the partnership is currently unknown.
