In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, former Ellen DeGeneres DJ Stephen “tWitch” Boss’ spouse, Allison Holker Boss, announced his passing. He was only 40 years old.

He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.”

Stephen “tWitch” Boss Cause of Death
Police sources informed TMZ that Stephen’s spouse, Allison Holker, worried and rushed into an LAPD station on Tuesday after she believed he had left the house without his vehicle. This was reportedly out of his character.
A request came in for medical assistance at an L.A. hotel at approximately 11:15 AM, according to reports. Paramedics reportedly discovered Stephen lifeless from a gunshot wound he had apparently inflicted on himself.

Who is Stephen “tWitch” Boss?
At the beginning of his career, he worked as a choreographer for the K-pop groups Seven and Big Bang. Subsequently, Boss co-founded CLI Studios, a company that provides dance training online.
In 2008, tWitch got his breakthrough when he finished second on “So You Think You Can Dance.” After his success, tWitch landed roles in movies including “Step Up” and “Magic Mike XXL.”

It was in 2014 when Boss first appeared as a DJ on “Ellen,” and he stayed with the talk show all the way to its cancellation in 2022. He became an executive producer of the Ellen DeGeneres show in 2020.
Stephen “tWitch” Boss is survived by his wife (Allison Boss) and 3 children (Zaia, Maddox, and Weslie). Just this past Saturday, Allison and Stephen marked their 9th wedding anniversary.
“To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt. I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children. Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you.”
