Epic Games Metaverse: Sony and Kirkbi (LEGO) to Invest $1 Billion Each
It’s safe to say that Epic Games has a strong network of allies. A new fundraising campaign has been launched by the American company in order to improve its presence in the metaverse industry. With the likes of Sony and Kirkbi (LEGO) on board, things will certainly speed up.
Epic Games isn’t Sony’s first venture in the company.
- The Japanese giant made an initial $250 million investment in July 2020, followed by another $200 million the next year.
- As the two firms have worked together on a variety of projects, this week’s reunion has taken on a whole new value.

Epic Games has also announced that it has raised another $1 billion from one more giant company.
- In addition to Sony, Kirkbi (which owns LEGO), has contributed an additional billion dollars to this deal. This mind-blowing sum will be used to fast-track progress on building the metaverse as they create it.
- With this in mind, their main objective is to make it possible for gamers and content creators alike to connect and enjoy immersive experiences together.
As such, it is vital to note that Epic Games’ organizational structure is unaffected by this financing; Tim Sweeney retains his position as CEO. Sweeney, who oversees both Fortnite and the Unreal Engine 5, views this fundraiser as a game-changer for gamers in the long run:
“As we reimagine the future of entertainment and play we need partners who share our vision. We have found this in our partnership with Sony and KIRKBI.

This investment will accelerate our work to build the metaverse and create spaces where players can have fun with friends, brands can build creative and immersive experiences and creators can build a community and thrive.”
