Epic Games, Sony to Fix Fighting Games Issue on PS5

Epic Games, Sony to Fix

Epic Games and Sony have announced that they’ll be fixing the fighting games issue found on the PlayStation 5. While fighting games may not be popular, there’s still a big audience who enjoys these games.

Games like Guilty Gear Strive and King of Fighters XV have suffered from issues in the past. You might say that these issues could be with the game itself. However, when compared to other platforms, the PS5 versions of these games have majorly suffered from increased input latency.

Mostly fighting games like Guilty Gear Strive require combos with accurate timing and quick reactions. Regardless, the input latency can greatly affect both of those things. Fans have been complaining about this issue for a long time now. When both players have similar latency then the match would be fair. But with the introduction of crossplay, players on different platforms have different input latency, making the matches become unbalanced.

How do Epic Games solve these issues?

You might wonder, how does Epic Games come into all of this? The reason behind it is simple, both Guilty Gear Strive and King of Fighters XV run on the Unreal Engine. If you didn’t already know this, Unreal Engine is actually made by Epic Games. After a lot of complaints from fans, Epic Games has confirmed that they’re working to find a solution.

In theory, with newer updates, the input latency should reduce a lot on the PS5 versions of these games.

One of the staff members that work for Epic Games even gave a statement. The statement reads:

“It’s awesome seeing the passion of the fighting games community and the dedicated efforts to analyze the technical nuances of various titles. We’re aware of this input latency issue and are currently working with Sony to support affected developers from our side. Rest assured we’ll do our best to help your beloved games shine across all platforms.”

Capcom Fighting Collection and Street Fighter 6

In other news, there is some more good news for fighting games fans! Earlier this year, Capcom announced the retro Capcom Fighting Collection. The collection is releasing this year on June 24 for PC, PS4, Xbox you, and Nintendo Switch. Fans of fighting games are definitely in for a treat as along with this, they even announced Street Fighter 6.

A short trailer was released that showcases Ryu fighting off against Luke. For those unaware, Luke is the newest member of the Street Fighter cast. While we still don’t have a lot of information about the upcoming title. Since it’s a sequel to 2015’s Street Fighter 5, we should see a lot of other characters return as well.
