Fortnite has started off May with quite a lot of excitement for players. Starting from the Star Wars collab to the return of iconic skins in the Item Shop, there doesn’t seem to be a dull day in Epic Games’ popular battle royale game. One of the surprises that greeted players as soon as they logged onto Fortnite this week was the return of the ‘Vaulted a Year or More’ section in the Item Shop. Players now have the chance to buy some of the rarest skins in Fortnite, but many are wondering: is the rare Rue skin back in the ‘Vaulted a Year or More’ section?
‘Vaulted a Year or More’ returns to Fortnite Item Shop
With Fortnite’s popularity and countless collaborations, it’s expected that they would release various weapon, character, and even item skins. Players can get these skins by buying them with the in-game currency called V-Bucks. Aside from the Battle Pass, players can get skins in Fortnite by buying them directly from the Item Shop.
Fortnite recently returned the ‘Vaulted a Year or More’ section in their Item Shop. This features skins or bundles that Epic has “vaulted”. If a skin or bundle is vaulted, that means there is no way for players to get these items for a while. Now that the ‘Vaulted a Year or More’ section is back, this will feature skins that have not been seen in the Fortnite Item Shop for over a year.
- Bringing this section back allows players to purchase skins or other bundles they might have missed.
- Some of the rarest skins in Fortnite are the Aerial Assault Trooper and the original Black Widow.
- The Aerial Assault Trooper outfit only made its first and final appearance during Fortnite’s first season.
- As for the original Black Widow outfit, it has been over 4 years since players saw it available in the game’s Item Shop.
- However, this section is not permanent and will only run for a limited time. Once Epic takes it down from Fortnite, there is no telling when the section will return in the Item Shop.
- Epic randomly adds the ‘Vaulted a Year or More’ section in the Fortnite Item Shop, so it’s best to keep your eyes peeled if you don’t want to miss out on what it offers!
Is the Rue skin back in Fortnite?
Quite possibly one of the most in-demand skins in Fortnite, the Rue skin has not been around for a while now. First introduced in Chapter 2 Season 2, this skin cost 1,200 V-Bucks. We last saw Rue in the Item Shop back in May 2020. After that, because of controversies, Epic decided not to include this skin in the game anymore.
- The Rue skin features two variants: red and black. One of the most notable things some players pointed out was how this skin resembled Nazi uniforms.
- It also didn’t help that the game’s official in-game description of the Rue skin reads: “Her hobbies include revenge, vengeance and retribution.”
- These details prompted some Fortnite players to raise their concerns about the skin. Many players took to social media to share their thoughts on how offensive the Rue skin might be.
- Back in September 2022, known Fortnite leaker HYPEX shed some light on the situation. According to the leaker, Epic Games were aware of the reactions the Rue skin received from the community. After players pointed out her similarities to a Nazi, they quickly removed the skin from the game.
- Despite these controversies, many players in the Fortnite community are begging Epic to re-release the Rue skin.
Will Epic ever include the Rue skin in Fortnite’s ‘Vaulted For a Year or More’ section?
It’s highly unlikely for Epic Games to re-release Rue in Fortnite after all that trouble. The only way they can have this skin return in the game is if they did adjustments to the entire outfit. This means removing or altering the insignia on her shoulder, giving her an updated look, and making sure that players won’t think it resembles a Nazi.

Given how Epic seems to listen to its community, there’s a chance that they’ve seen how in-demand this skin is. It’s either they release an updated version of the Rue skin, or they release a new skin that resembles Rue.
Which skin do you want to see unvaulted soon in Fortnite? Do you also think there’s a chance they will re-release the Rue skin? Let us know your thoughts about this in the comments below! For more content, stay with us, here at Spiel Times.
