George R. R. Martin And FromSoftware’s Upcoming Game “Great Rune” May Not Be “Fully” Open World

George R.R. Martin’s collaboration with FromSoftware, Great Rune, may not be a “fully” open-world title.

As pointed out by renowned Italian journalist Antonio Fuctio, Great Rune (for now) may not be a full-fledged open world game. In a tweet this afternoon, the journalist posted, “I can confirm it, a developer told me about this project MANY years ago. It may not be a “fully” Open World due to the limitations of the same (but improved) From Software engine.”

He went on to show his regards on the name “Great Rune” as it could be a codename for the game. “I’m not sure, instead, about ‘Great Rune’ name. The codename for Bloodborne was, for example, SPRJ,” Antonio wrote.

Rumours for the game found their places on the internet back in March 2019. Contrary to what many believed, FromSoftware’s newest RPG project isn’t a Game of Thrones adaptation. Rather, it’s a different tale from Martin. Gematsu reported that the game has been in development for the past three years, is an open-world title with horse riding in it and is a collaboration between the author and FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki.

On May 20th, George wrote in his blog post, “I’ve consulted on a video game out of Japan.”

An anonymous user posted a few details about the game on 4chan on which, we have no confirmation. Hence, we’ve decided not to include the same in this article.
