The Gujarat Titans were in great search of suitable players for their squad after sudden withdrawal by Jason Roy from IPL citing bio bubble fatigue. There is some news that Titans have finally found the replacement of Jason Roy. It’s none other than Afghanistan hard-hitting opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
However, everyone was expecting that Titans will give Suresh Raina a chance to play as he was gone unsold in IPL 2022 Auction.
A Twitter trend was also trending yesterday to use Raina as Jason Roy’s replacement. But the main decision remains at the hands of the team management. Moreover, Gujarat Titans are yet to officially announce Gurbaz as a replacement as they await the BCCI green light.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz is a young, 20-years-old up-and-coming opening batsman from Afghanistan who has already a good chunk of experience playing in various cricket leagues. He is also a handy keeper which makes him a multi-utility player.
Gurbaz made his debut in T20 International, in August 2019.
In the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022, Gurbaz played for Islamabad United. He finished the campaign with 139 runs from six games at an average of 27.80 and a brilliant strike rate of 180.51. Â He has been just fantastic with his bat in the T20s; in 69 career T20 games, Gurbaz has smashed 113 sixes.
- The most important reason for choosing Rahmanullah Gurbaz over Suresh Raina is the wicket-keeping crisis in Gujarat Titans. Matthew Wade will only be available in the second week of IPL.
- The other keeper on the roster is Wriddhiman Saha, who is currently involved in a lot of controversies. Moreover, he is running out of form for a few months. So to keep one player as backup wicketkeeper Titans might have come to the conclusion of choosing Gurbaz over Raina.
