Because Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd are two of miHoYo’s most popular games, it’s only logical that they’re frequently getting compared with each other. Some of these parallels inevitably make gamers wonder if the two series are in the same universe. After all, they both have ‘Impact’ in their titles and have similar art designs.
GenKai Impact
Prior to Genshin Impact, there was Honkai Impact 3rd, a game that made Chinese creator miHoYo famous worldwide. The massively popular mobile action RPG is now on the PC platform by late 2020, and it has received frequent improvements since its initial release in China in 2016. MiHoYo’s Genshin Impact is getting a lot of attention, and now, fans are asking if Genshin and Honkai are related.
Herrscher of the Void
The Unknown God, whom the twins battle at the start of Genshin Impact, is also the focal point of fan theories linking the two games. Her appearance is disturbingly similar to that of the Herrscher of the Void in Honkai Impact, the show’s major enemy. Herrscher of the Void can create links, which is how the Traveler ends up in Teyvat. Furthermore, both characters have the same Chinese and Japanese voice actors.
Genshin Impact Intro
The Traveler arrived in Teyvat from another world following a battle with an unnamed god, according to the opening of Genshin Impact. However, in Honkai Impact’s Chapter 17 of the main tale, Overseer Otto views other worlds, including Dvalin.
It’s established by the Imaginary Tree that there is a manner of linking the two realms. The twins traveled to separate worlds before landing in Teyvat, but it is unknown where they came from until one gets dragged 500 years into the future.
Chapter 17 – Imaginary Tree
Honkai Impact’s main writer verified that the dragon on the right side of the computer screen is the dragon from Genshin Impact in today’s Honkai Impact 4.2 PV. Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact are two different types of leaves from the Tree of Void.
Honkai Impact 3rd and Genshin Impact are linked in some way. The developer has mentioned Dvalin as somehow seen in another world via the Imaginary Tree in Chapter 17 in regards to a Honkai Impact character named Fallen Rosemary. However, other subtle factors could link the two scenarios.
Venti x Wendy
Wendy from Honkai and Venti from Genshin are both linked. Venti is the Anemo Archon Barbatos, as revealed in the Prologue chapter of Genshin Impact. Not only does his appearance resemble Wendy’s, but they are both wind gods in their realms.
Meaning of Impact
The strongest proof of linkages, apart from establishing Dvalin’s presence in Honkai Impact’s universe, is in the two titles.
In Honkai’s universe, the name Impact has a special meaning. Herrschers want to kill mankind in horrific catastrophes known as “impacts,” which could suggest that Genshin’s journey is moving closer to a Herrscher’s Impact on this world.
Meaning of Honkai
Honkai, like Genshin, has a rich backstory that is still being revealed, but its concept is that an alternate version of Earth is threatened by mysterious chaos known as honkai (collapse or decay) in Chinese.
Honkai contains multiple gameplay styles such as social simulators and exploring dungeons while remaining largely a gacha game, similar to Genshin Impact.
The Honkai Universe
Both games take place in a centralized realm known as the Honkai Universe, which ties them together. There haven’t been many crossovers between the two series yet, but that doesn’t mean none have occurred.
The most famous was a fun event in Honkai Impact 3rd when players could play as Keqing and Fischl, with the latter becoming a permanent addition to the game’s lineup. That crossover, on the other hand, doesn’t mean any substantial plot links.
Redditors Confirming GenKai Linkage
Mihoyo confirmed that both Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact share a multi-verse. The design of some of the games’ characters is another major reason why some fans might wonder if the two games are set in the same universe. Genshin Impact’s Yae Miko, for example, looks a lot like Honkai Impact 3rd’s Yae Sakura.
Time-Travelers
Apart from Dvalin’s appearance in that game, the two games’ relationship is still unknown.
The two games are currently confirmed to be set in the same universe, though their links aren’t completely clear.
The events of Genshin Impact could take place 500 years after Honkai. This implies that the Traveler was escaping the mess before going into the future. Genshin may be a prequel to Honkai.
There are Genshin characters based on Honkai characters as both were created by miHoYo, and Genshin has already been described as a Honkai bubble universe. I won’t give anything away about bubble realms because you discover more about them as the story goes. We’ve also recently seen the Honkai X Genshin crossover, and perhaps Honkai will appear in Genshin at some point.
Genshin Impact is in the same universe as Honkai, according to the CEO of miHoYo.
MiHoYo CEO Haoyu Cai discussed the development of Genshin Impact during last year’s Game Developers Conference. He discussed the story of Genshin Impact as well as character designs and the intricacies that go into it. The relationship between Genshin and Honkai Impact 3rd is one of the noteworthy details he reveals.
Cai claims that Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd are set in the same universe. This astonished fans because HoYoverse had previously refuted all allegations and hypotheses linking the two games.
