There is great news for all the John Wick fans as the lead assassin returns with the fifth installment of the film. Yes, you’ve heard that right, and that nod from the makers raises curiosity about Keanu Reeves’ return to further the John Wick universe despite his ambiguous death in the climax of John Wick 4.
If you have watched the successful fourth installment, you must have thought, ‘Wait, that can’t be true. He isn’t dead right?‘ and you were right to do so as the film ended, leaving much to desire. However, the alleged return of Keanu Reeves is receiving mixed reactions from the fans as some believe his return isn’t suitable for the franchise after all the goodbyes.

John Wick: Chapter 4 premiered in early 2023 and picked up where it left off in John Wick 3: Parabellum. In the film, the efficient assassin John Wick uncovers a path to defeat The High Table, but before doing so, he must earn his freedom by facing off against a new enemy.
- This enemy is powerful, with alliances spread all across the globe, and Wick has a hard time reaching the climax scene with Cain and Marquis Vincent De Gramont. It focuses on the three characters played by Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, and Bill Skarsgård, respectively, sitting across a table.

- Cain takes two shots at the morally wounded assassin, and Wick takes one at De Gramont, killing him on the instance. Wick gains freedom from The High Table and bleeds from his injuries while watching a sunset. The emotionally dense scene seems to stretch a parallel with the sunset and the death of John Wick.
- Following this, the Continental Hotel’s manager Winston and his friend, the Bowery King, also visit the graves of Wick and his beloved wife as the credits start rolling. Despite that, it is hard to believe a hero’s death. Additionally, this ambiguous ending left much to anticipate giving way to John Wick 5, and with the latest updates, it is easy to believe that John Wick likely faked his death.

I think they left it vague enough that it could be taken either way, most likely so they can continue the franchise if it made money. I’m fine with him being alive tho because I love the John Wick movies and if Keanu wants to keep playing the role I’m happy for him to be able to

Joe Drake, the chairman of Lionsgate, confirmed that there are three John Wick projects at work at the moment. These projects include John Wick 5, Ballerina, and The Continental. Drake further shared with Comicbook that Ballerina is a spin-off aiming for a release next year. The rest of the projects and a TV series is in the works to air soon.
- As per the previous release of installments, all within a two to three years gap, John Wick 5 is likely to release in 2025 or 2026. However, will Keanu Reeves return with it? Probably yes, and it would be quite a shock if he didn’t.
- After all, the film is titled after his character John Wick, and there is plenty of room for him to establish that his death in the climax of the fourth installment was fake. However, some opinions suggest Keanu Reeves’ return might not be the best approach for the franchise.
- The first four installments highlighted John Wick’s suffering as he couldn’t find ways to escape the consequences of the mess he had created. The climax of John Wick 4 provided him with the perfect ending from the pains and fate, which is the original intent of the makers.

In a way, John Wick attained his perfect ending with the climax of the fourth installment. He was indeed fed up with his life spinning into complications, and at one point, Wick established that he was only alive due to the memories of his wife. His death is a satisfying end for the distressed assassin.
Screen Rant suggests that Keanu Reeves can return to the franchise without altering the perfect end of the fourth film. The upcoming spin-offs Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas as a Russian assassin, features a cameo from Reeves as it takes place between Chapters 3 and 4 of the universe.

- Keanu Reeves can continue with the John Wick universe in flashback sequences or while exploring the past and in-between chapters from the first four installments. This will also stay more true to the franchise’s theme about consequences and fate.
- Regardlessly, John Wick 5 is in the making, and Lionsgate is likely to prefer that Keanu Reeves returns with it, possibly for the sixth installment as well. Either way, fans have much to look forward to with the upcoming spin-off Ballerina, TV adaption, The Continental, and John Wick 5.
