John Wick: Chapter 4 – What we know so far

The John Wick franchise knows no end to its own hype. A new official teaser poster for Keanu Reeves‘ latest outing John Wick: Chapter 4 has arrived at Brazil’s Comic Con, an event that has been the central hub for film and TV entertainment updates.

The poster comes just three weeks after the official trailer for John Wick 4 was released. Watch the trailer here:

The new posters

  • The new poster is the ultimate suave mugshot one could ask for. It features Keanu Reeves as the titular assassin with an hourglass replacing his tie. This suggests that the hitman is running out of time.

  • Another graphic illustration poster was handed to the CCXP attendees. The red and black poster looks absolutely blazing, featuring the words “Baba Yaga” which is John Wick’s nickname.

Growth of the John Wick franchise

For the uninitiated, John Wick (2014) follows the story of a hitman who is forced out of retirement when the son of a Russian mob boss kills his dog. The second and third installments shifted the narrative from New York to Rome and later to Morocco.

  • John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum was a roaring triumph at the global box office, grossing over $300 million worldwide.
  • It’s no surprise that Chapter 4 was announced immediately, especially after the third part ended in sort of a cliffhanger with Wick falling from the top of the Continental Hotel.
  • The filming of John Wick: Chapter 4 was initially planned in 2020 but the pandemic brought things to a halt.

John Wick 4: What’s in store?

The official synopsis for the film says: “John Wick uncovers a path to defeating the High Table. But before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into foes.”

  • The fourth installment of this highly successful hitman franchise movie is directed once again by Chad Stahelski
  • The trailer and posters promise a complete John Wick outing, a character who has almost evolved into his own genre of film.

  • For an assassin who is known for killing people even with a pencil, audiences are eagerly awaiting high-octane fight sequences from the ageless Keanu Reeves.
  • And if things couldn’t get any better, John Wick is pitted to fight a character played by martial arts legend Donnie Yen.

The Supporting Cast of JW4

  • Franchise veterans Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, and The Matrix co-star Laurence Fishburne join Keanu Reeves on screen.
  • Newcomers include Bill Skarsgård as the antagonist The Marquis, Shamier Anderson, and Clancy Brown.

Spin-off connection

Apart from the upcoming JW4, a spin-off movie titled Ballerina is also in the works. Featuring Ana de Armas as a young woman avenging her murdered family, the film has already started production. The end of John Wick 4 could have connections to Ballerina.

  • All three films flaunt striking visual styles and pathbreaking stunt choreography. The John Wick franchise might be dependent on a single character/actor and relatively new to other major franchises, but it already deems a cult status among worldwide moviegoers.

  • John Wick Chapter 4 expects to hit theaters on 24 March 2023. Are you pumped up for the return of Baba Yaga?
