A few days ago, the world finally caught a glimpse into the world of Joker Folie a Deux. Todd Phillips returns to direct the sequel of Joker, which earned him accolades including Academy Award nominations. Phillips took to Instagram to post a first-look image of Joker Folie a Deux, which translates to Madness for Two in French.
The first look image is an extreme close-up of Harley Quinn holding Arthur Fleck’s face in her hands. Joker and Harley Quinn’s chemistry is psychotically twisted, and the image lives up to this tag.
Despite seeming like a romantic picture, there is a tinge of madness in both the actors’ eyes, promising a wildly exciting dynamic in Joker Folie a Deux.
What we know so far
Unlike any other superhero movie ever, Joker Folie a Deux is going to be a musical. The musical treatment decision has met with criticism from fans already. However, the first part itself relied heavily on its soundtrack with some iconic dance sequences.
Scott Silver has co-written the screenplay with Todd Philips and Bradley Cooper serves as a producer for the film. Alongside Phoenix and Gaga, Joker Folie a Deux’s cast includes some big names like Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Zazie Beetz.

Just like critics of the sequel’s musical treatment, some fans are not too pleased with Lady Gaga being cast as Harley Quinn in Joker Folie a Deux. The criticism mainly comes from DC fans who believe Margot Robbie should reprise her role as the demented diva.
Joker’s success
In 2019, Joker grossed over $1 billion worldwide, becoming the first R-rated movie in history to hit that mark. The film did an excellent job of portraying mental illness on screen. It was a refreshing take on the superhero genre.
Joker Folie a Deux will try to follow its predecessor’s footsteps along with a fantastic score and some stunning visual mastery. Fans expect the sequel to start off from when Joker escapes Arkham Asylum where he was jailed.
