Warriors guard Jordan Poole is gaining quite the attention, but not for good reasons. Clearly, Poole has been struggling in the 2023 playoffs. He’s currently on a rough patch as he only averages 8 points per game against the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round. The 23-year-old rising star’s underperformance now ignites the idea: Will Jordan Poole be traded or will the Warriors keep him next season? Let’s discuss the shaky future of Poole with Golden State and what could possibly happen this offseason.
Strike while the iron is hot
Trading Jordan Poole as early as next season would be a good move for the Warriors. Giving away Poole in exchange for some valuable role players and some draft picks could be the way to go. While Poole’s trade value is still high, it would be acceptable if GSW moves now and make the best out of the situation. Also, this must be done before other teams realize that Jordan Poole isn’t worthy of that $128 Million deal.
I have created a separate article tackling possible trades for Jordan Poole next season, and the outcome definitely favors Golden State. If they would fail at a championship run in this year’s playoffs, we might be seeing some drastic changes in the Warriors’ roster next season. Moreover, 4-time All-Star Draymond Green, who had just been named in the 2023 All-Defensive 2nd team, will be a free agent at the end of this season. Obviously, he will be asking for a huge contract from the Warriors’ front office or he might go looking elsewhere.
Warriors gamble: Wait and see
The 2022 NBA champions have a roster filled with great talent. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevon Looney, Draymond Green, Gary Payton II, Jonathan Kuminga, Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, and more. If the dubs do decide to keep this roster intact, it would be costing them a lot of money. They’re already above the luxury tax, and if they decide to keep Jordan Poole and sign Draymond Green to another hefty deal, it’s going to be a financial mess.
To keep Jordan Poole is to make a sacrifice: Pay a hefty amount of fee for the tax or let go of some of their current players. Jordan Poole is just 23 years old and the young basketball star still has a lot of time. He has a high ceiling and great potential to become an All-Star, a franchise player ever. The Warriors can gamble and just wait for Poole to fully develop into what he is supposed to be. But, right now, he is having problems with himself and his team.
So, should the Warriors trade Jordan Poole or not?
There have been reports that Jordan Poole’s future with the Golden State Warriors is not looking good. According to Warriors reporter Kerith Burke, there is an unexplained tension happening in the Warriors locker room. Nothing has sparked yet, but it’s obvious Jordan Poole is in the middle of something fishy.

However, I personally think that the Golden State Warriors should not trade Poole. The trio of Steph, Klay, and Draymond are already past their prime and are all aging. Plus, it’s natural for a good player to choke on big games such as the playoffs. Thus, we just have to give Poole some slack. In the 2022-2023 season, Jordan Poole averaged a career-high in points per game (20.4) and enjoyed his best year so far.
The slander towards the young athlete is already going out of hand. Currently, GSW is one game from being eliminated in the playoffs by the Lakers. Truth be told, Jordan Poole does not deserve to be blamed for their loss.
