Metro Exodus Has A Possible 9/11 Reference

Metro Exodus Possible 9/11 Reference

Just a single day past its release, Metro Exodus players have found a possible reference/easter egg to the tragic events of 9/11. While many players have claimed to have found the easter egg, Reddit user Lycanthropys and streamer Jimmy_Garbuglio were among the first few to have found the same.

The reference can be spotted in a room full of huge shelves with year markings, the 2000-2009 shelf to be specific. The room is an “archive of satellite maps that were created from the’70s up until a few years after the war to show radiation levels and environmental damage and changes in key areas of the world”, Lycanthropys wrote. The rows represent years, while the columns are for months. Most of the cells are filled with satellite map containers, while some are empty. Interestingly, in the ninth cell, which says September(in Russian) against 2001, there is a toy aeroplane that could possibly refer to the attacks of 9/11.

“I don’t know, I think it’s just one dev who made a reference,” a former 4A Games designer wrote to me. “There is no meaning behind it. It wasn’t official or planned by the team.”
