The title ‘Down for Love’ uses the word ‘Down’ from Down syndrome and turns it into a pun with a common phrase. ‘Down for’ literally means that someone is open to something, mostly love, which is the same case here.

However, using Down syndrome for wordplay isn’t really appropriate, according to social media users. Some appreciate the intention and see it as a way to challenge perceptions. Others argue that it trivializes people with the condition.
Netflix has clarified that the intention was to create a title that reflects the positive and open-hearted nature of the show. In fact, the feel-good reality dating show was made in consultation with the New Zealand Down Syndrome Association.
