Netflix: Down for Love, Dating Show for People with Down Syndrome, Season 2 Confirmed | Fans React

Netflix Down for Love Season 2 dating show

Dating shows are a dime a dozen in 2023 but Netflix has managed to come up with a new show that’s strikingly unique in its concept and heartwarming at the same time. ‘Down for Love’ follows the journey of people with Down syndrome as they search for love. The New Zealand-based series premiered internationally on August 11. Since then, the couples have captured the hearts of audiences around the world.

The show has also sparked some minor controversies for its title along with some important discussions about inclusivity and representation. As the first season of the dating show came to a fitting end just recently, fans are left wondering: will Down for Love get a Season 2 renewal on Netflix? Let’s find out.

Is Down for Love Season 2 confirmed?

Without any further ado, we can safely assume that Down for Love has, in fact, been renewed for a second season by Netflix. While the streaming giant has not announced or confirmed anything regarding this, the show’s original producers dropped a major hint.

In an Instagram post, Attitude Pictures shared their excitement about the upcoming season. The post called for new participants, inviting individuals with Down syndrome or other intellectual disabilities to join the quest for love in the upcoming season.

The dating show’s second season renewal doesn’t come as a surprise. Down for Love has been a breath of fresh in the dating show genre.  The show skyrocketed into the platform’s top 10 shows in its first week of release.

When will Netflix stream Down for Love Season 2?

This virtually confirms that production work has already started for Season 2 of Down for Love on Netflix. However, the release date remains uncertain and we have to wait for official news from Netflix.

Bear in mind that all five episodes of Down for Love Season 1 first came out in May 2022 in New Zealand. It took more than a year’s time for the dating show to make its way to screens across the world.

But this time, things are bound to be different. The show’s massive global success will practically ensure that it gets an international premiere date almost around the same time as its initial premiere in New Zealand.

Exploring the criticism around the title

When it comes to dealing with sensitive topics like intellectual disabilities, media giants like Netflix will always be under extreme public scrutiny. Despite receiving wholesome reactions from everywhere, some have found the show’s title to be in poor taste.

The title ‘Down for Love’ uses the word ‘Down’ from Down syndrome and turns it into a pun with a common phrase. ‘Down for’ literally means that someone is open to something, mostly love, which is the same case here.

However, using Down syndrome for wordplay isn’t really appropriate, according to social media users. Some appreciate the intention and see it as a way to challenge perceptions. Others argue that it trivializes people with the condition.

Netflix has clarified that the intention was to create a title that reflects the positive and open-hearted nature of the show. In fact, the feel-good reality dating show was made in consultation with the New Zealand Down Syndrome Association
