NFL: How bad is Aaron Rodgers’ injury?

Aaron Rodgers injures his left achilles tendon

Future NFL Hall-of-Famer Aaron Rodgers’s opening night for his new team, the New York Jets, didn’t go according to plan. In his debut as a member of the Jets, Rodgers injured his leg early in the game against the Buffalo Bills. Fans and players were even more shocked to hear how bad really Aaron Rodgers’s injury was. After a devastating incident, uncertainties are looming for the 2023 season and even his NFL career.

Aaron Rodgers went down during the Jets vs. Bills matchup in week 1

Just less than four minutes into the first quarter, star quarterback Aaron Rodgers appears to be in pain. The four-time MVP slowly falls down to the ground as he clutches his leg. Apparently, Rodgers injured his left Achilles tendon after just four plays.

According to the Jets, Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon after being tackled from behind by Buffalo Bills linebacker, Leonard Floyd. The legendary quarterback was helped off the field and exited the game early. Despite the unfortunate event, the Jets were able to hold their ground against the Bills as they secured victory in their first game of the season, 22-16.

How bad is Aaron Rodgers’ injury?

When asked what he thinks about Rodgers’ injury, New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh has some bad news. “Concerned with his Achilles, MRI is probably gonna confirm what we think is already gonna happen. So prayers tonight, but it’s not good”, Saleh told the media on the podium after their win over the Bills.

A few hours after Aaron Rodgers was forced to leave the match early, the NFL announced that the Jets quarterback completely tore his left Achilles tendon and will be out of the 2023 season. This was revealed after the results of his MRI. His debut as a Jets player only lasted for 75 seconds.

Rodgers, 39, is entering his 19th season as a professional football player in the NFL. He was famous for being the superstar of the Green Bay Packers for 18 years up until this season. Last year, the Packets finally traded Rodgers to the Jets in exchange for the first, second, and sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. After being transferred to a new shade of grey jersey, Rodgers and the Jets agreed to a reworked contract that would give the premiered quarterback a 2-year, $75 million deal that is fully guaranteed, keeping Rodgers until the 2024 season.

But, with Rodgers out for the season, Zach Wilson will be the team’s starting QB

After Rodgers went down with an injury, the 2021 2nd overall pick Zach Wilson will be taking over the role as the starting quarterback for the Jets. Wilson entered the game at the 3:45 mark and finished the game with 140 yards ran, 1 touchdown, and an interception. Although Rodgers would have been the Jets’ best hope for a playoff appearance, the team must work with what they have right now and hope that A-Rod will recover next season.
