Episode 1051 of Oda’s most redeemed Manga’s anime adaptation has been nothing short of breathtaking. With Luffy’s upcoming evolution pending, fans are anxiously waiting for the coming episodes. But in a recent tide of changes, we bring to you the sad news of One Piece Anime going on hiatus.
Due to a national marathon causing unavailability of broadcasting slots, the One Piece anime will be taking a two-week hiatus from February 26 to March 19. But don’t worry, fans will have two extra episodes to enjoy before the break begins.
- On February 19, 2023, One Piece fans can expect a double dose of content with the simultaneous release of episode 1052 and manga chapter 1075.
- The announcement of the prolonged hiatus elicited disappointment among the anime’s fans, who took to Twitter to voice their discontent.

The Wano Arc has been criticized for its slow pace and the impression that the anime is lingering behind the manga. But if you think about it, it was a long time ago when the Anime even had a relatively normal pace for societal standards.
Why is One Piece so slow piece?
- The reason behind the slow pacing of the One Piece Anime is simple. The Anime is almost always caught up to the Manga.
- Given just how the series has been running for over two decades, it feels only natural for the source material (the manga, in this case) to be adapted slowly.
The One Piece Hiatus is a simple strategic retreat rather than an artistic flaw. The last time I remember having a decent-paced One Piece episode was bay back. As back as the beginning of the series, which had plenty of manga chapters to adapt into.
How Dragonball Z and Naruto handled similar obstacles
- Some similar things have been done with other shonen series as well. Dragonball Z was known for its auspiciously hideously long-paced episodes.
- Where one power-up for a spirit bomb took the entirety of ten episodes. Then we saw glimpses of something similar in Naruto. Although Naruto refrained from engaging in such malicious practices.
Naruto’s filler and emotional nostalgia
- Naruto took a different turn altogether with Naruto Shippuden. It introduced the amazing concepts of Anime originals and Fillers. Although such a concept had existed prior to the shonen series as well.
Naruto Shippuden created multiple anime original episodes, ones that did not adapt itself from the Manga. And many times it simply went on with a nostalgic revisit. It’s nothing short of a trauma to every Naruto fan (Almost) who had to watch Gaara’s sob story so many times that it eventually lost its emotional appeal.
Concluding
Now on the same topic and coming back to One Piece hiatus, the break may benefit the series. It will give manga creator Eiichiro Oda more time to publish additional chapters, potentially reducing the pressure on the anime and enhancing its pacing.
The preview for episode 1052 depicts Momonosuke and Yamato working together to prevent Onigashima from collapsing on the Flower Capital, while Zoro and Sanji engage in battle against the Beast Pirate leaders King and Queen. So although the One Piece hiatus is more or less confirmed, we can still enjoy the remaining two episodes.
