Trainers, get your Poison-type Pokemon ready! Niantic has announced details on the upcoming Noxious Swamp event in Pokemon GO. Running from August 19 to August 22, this event will feature Pokemon that appeared during Pokemon GO Fest 2023 in New York City. When is the Noxious Swamp event?
The Noxious Swamp event will run from Saturday, August 19 at 10 AM to Tuesday, August 22 at 8 PM local time. This overlaps with Pokemon GO Fest in New York, allowing trainers worldwide to participate.
Wild Spawns and Shiny Skrelp Debut
The wild spawns for this event will feature Poison and Dragon-types like Zubat, Dratini, Skorupi, and more. The big draw is the debut of Shiny Skrelp, which will be available globally for the first time.

Eggs, Raids, and Research
In addition to wild spawns, Noxious Swamp will feature event-exclusive One and Three-Star Raids. These include Pokemon like Grimer, Galarian Weezing, and more.
Timed Research will also be available focusing on Poison and Dragon-types. Completing tasks will lead to encounters with rare Pokemon like Jangmo-o.
Bonuses
To help trainers take advantage of all the new spawns and raids, Niantic is offering some event bonuses:
- Double Catch Candy – this will help with amassing candy for evolutions and power-ups
- Increased Team GO Rocket balloons – provides more chances to battle and catch Shadow Pokemon
- 1 free daily Raid Pass from Gyms – allows more opportunities to raid and encounter event Pokemon
Tips for Shiny Hunting
With the long-awaited debut of Shiny Skrelp, trainers will want to optimize their chances of finding this rare variant. Here are some tips:
- Use Incense and Lures constantly to boost spawns
- Check known nests and hotspots multiple times
- Raid as much as possible for extra encounters
- Complete the Timed Research multiple times on different days
- Trade with friends for re-rolls of IVs and potential shininess
Maximizing Chances to Get Shiny Skrelp
To maximize potential Shiny Skrelp encounters, trainers should play as much as possible during the event window.
- Try to catch every single spawn you see
- Walk around different areas and biomes to find a diversity of spawns
- Team up with friends and share sightings of rare spawns
- Manage your inventory ahead of time so you can catch uninterrupted
- Charge your phone and bring portable chargers to play for longer periods
