PS5: Major System Update Tomorrow

The PS5 will get an upgrade with a fresh version of its software tomorrow, September 15, 2021. It will include a few of the features that some players have already been able to try out thanks to the beta phase of the firmware that was launched in July. According to the official PlayStation blog, this new update includes a number of long-awaited features. It will include the ability to increase internal storage, play 3D audio from the integrated speakers on any monitor, and a number of other enhancements to the interface.

M.2 SSD

PS5s running the latest firmware version will be able to expand their internal storage space by installing an M.2 SSD; bought separately. Players will be able to download, move, and play both PS5 and PS4 games without having to sacrifice loading speed once the new component is installed.

3D Audio

• Another new feature in this second big PS5 firmware version will be the ability to transform the speakers built into our televisions into 3D speakers. Previously, this feature was only possible with headphones.
• You will be able to use the microphone on their DualSense controller to assess the acoustics of the room where they play; allowing them to enjoy sound in three dimensions.
• Those who have the Pulse 3D wireless headset will be able to adjust them through the sound control tab. You can customize audio profiles, which is an important new feature.

Interface

• The UX, or user experience, will get modification at the interface level. This fresh PS5 update includes a larger Game Base, more Control Center personalization choices, an up-to-date Library menu that separates the PS4 and PS5 versions of the same game.
• Features of the social and gaming experience have also been enhanced. There will be new features such as resolution preference in PS Now, which will allow users to pick between 720p and 1080p in each game. Moreover, a new type of multiplayer medal called Leader will be added.
• A new trophy tracker has been incorporated to the quick menu, and automatic video capture has been added for when a player beats a record in a custom score or time challenge.

PS App

• There are also new additions in the PlayStation app for mobile devices, including the use of PS Remote technology even when there is no WiFi connection (with a minimum bandwidth of 5 Mbps and a recommended bandwidth of 15 Mbps) and the ability to play friends’ Share Screens on their mobile devices starting September 23.
• Lastly, in tomorrow’s firmware update, PS4 owners will be able to see PS5 trophies on their console, both their own and those of friends and other players.
