PS5: Will Stock Run Out Before You Could Even Pre-Order It?
It has been established before how the PS5’s stock will be limited for 2020. This gives rise to the question – Will stock run out before you could even pre-order it, the PS5?
In an interview with CNET, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan touched the topic very vaguely. “Today is a very important day for us because following today we will see meaningful activity with retailers in terms of the generation of pre-orders, even if it’s absent price,” Ryan said. “But we will be collecting those data points, extrapolating what that means in terms of day one demand — and we’ve obviously done this many times and you know, we’re not perfect, but we’re not bad at it either — and that will, in turn, inform the production process.”
In April 2020, Bloomberg reported how Sony is planning “to produce far fewer units of its upcoming PlayStation 5 in its first year than it had for the previous-generation console’s launch, according to people familiar with the matter”. The company called the decision due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. According to Bloomberg’s report, there will be around 5 to 6 million PS5 units for FY21.
Sony hasn’t commented on the availability and price yet. Nor has Microsoft for its Xbox Series X console. We’ll notify you when there’s an update.
