SIE Russia Won’t Sell Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered Due To The “No Russian” Mission
Activision dropped Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered yesterday, out of nowhere. It was a surprise launch, well, for those who weren’t following the leaks. Sony Interactive Entertainment Russia has decided not to sell the game on the Russian PlayStation Store, due to the controversial “No Russian” mission still being in the game.
Although Sony hasn’t confirmed No Russian to be the reason behind their decision, we can safely assume it is so. Call of Duty Russia’s official Twitter account issued a statement regarding the same.
The tweet called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered a “completely fictional 2009 campaign, recreated in HD quality”. It was Sony who decided not to release the game for the PS4. On April 30th, however, players will be able to purchase the game for PC and Xbox One.
No Russian is one of the most controversial video game missions, not intended, but as received by critics. From Wikipedia, Jim Sterling of Destructoid, however, was fully supportive of the level, as he thought that it was a statement that video games could discuss controversial topics, which he felt that many developers would often shy away from. He concluded by saying that if “No Russian” was able to make players question if the payoff was worth human sacrifice, then video games could finally be considered an art form.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is available for $20 across PS Stores worldwide, subject to a few exceptions like the Russian Store. The game is a timed-exclusive for the PS4 and arrives on PC and Xbox One on April 30th.
