STALKER 2: Delayed Indefinitely Amidst Ukraine-Russia War

BY JC Paredes 4 years AGO 3 MIN READ

You undoubtedly already know that the conflict in Ukraine has been raging since Vladimir Putin sent his soldiers there. GSC Game World’s STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl is delayed and numerous eSport competitions are postponed due to this problem, which had a direct influence on the production of several games.

The launch date of STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl, which had previously been rescheduled in January, has just been delayed once more, but this time indefinitely. GSC Game World shared this unfortunate news through a video. The conflict in Ukraine, which has been raging for a few days now, is the root reason for this.

How is the overall video game business being affected by the conflict in Ukraine?

Following President Vladimir Putin’s order on February 24, Russian troops have crossed Ukrainian territory, sparking international outrage and placing the European country’s citizens on high alert. According to the United Nations, there have already been more than 130 civilian deaths. Among those worried about their safety and future are a large number of video game developers.

Wargaming has contributed a million dollars to Ukraine’s Red Cross. GSC Game World, the company behind STALKER 2, recently requested donations for the country’s military forces. This shows that international unity is a crucial aspect in these difficult times for Ukrainian residents.

Gaming Studios Unite for A Cause

Many studios from across the world have also shown their support in the last week. However, it is mostly developers in nearby countries like Poland who are working together to collect funds and provide housing for migrants.

  • A non-governmental group aiding refugees in Poland has received $235,000 from CD Projekt RED, while 11 Bit Studios has already raised $715,000 worth of donations.
  • An itch.io bundle of indie video games will be out soon; with the earnings going to benefit various Ukrainian non-profits, arranged by Necrosoft Games.
