Thor: Love and Thunder – Post-Credits Explained

The fourth standalone Thor movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, is already here, and as the MCU loves to do in each of their movies, a post-credit scene is always present. WARNING! MAJOR SPOILER ALERT! Everything in this article will be all about the things in the movie, so, you might want to dial down a bit. But, if you’re a real fan of adventure, why don’t we take a stroll with the two post-credit scenes in Thor: Love and Thunder!

Thor: Love and Thunder (Two Post-Credits)

Post-Credit Scene No.1: Zeus Introduces Hercules

Hercules

“They beg you for mercy, without them knowing if you are actually listening. Now, when they look to the sky, they don’t ask us for lightning, they don’t ask us for rain. They just want to see their so-called superheroes. When did we become the joke? No. No more.  They will fear us again. When Thor Odinson falls from the sky. Do you understand me, Hercules?”

These were the exact words Zeus (Russell Crowe) said in the first post-credit scene while being treated with his “zeussettes” or a group of female attendants. As the God of Lightning and the God of Olympus, his wish is his son’s command as Hercules said, “Yes, father”.

In the comics, Hercules is considered to be one of the strongest characters.

The Greek demigod is one of Thor’s rivals but later on became one of the members of the Avengers, joining Thor in the process. In addition to that, Hercules has the strength equivalent to the Incredible Hulk which makes him a very formidable foe. And, as Zeus’ commanded, he wants his son, Hercules, to bring the rain down on Thor as well as the humans. Hercules is also seen wielding the legendary weapon called the “Golden Mace” which is made of Adamantine. Moreover, this weapon is on the same level as Thor’s Mjolnir and Stormbreaker.

It is not a surprise that Zeus wants Thor’s head since the Norse God of Thunder almost killed the Greek God of Lightning using his very own Thunder Bolt. Even Thor and the gang knew that the Olympians will come after him sooner or later.

Although Chris Hemsworth (Thor) previously hinted that this could be his last Thor movie, the post-credits could negate that with the phrase “THOR WILL RETURN”. Could it be possible that we will get to see the two of them in the next Avengers movie? Well, that’s another story to talk about.

As seen in the movie, Hercules will be played by Brett Goldstein. Goldstein is famously known for his role as Roy Kent in the comedy/drama series ‘Ted Lasso’.

Post-Credit Scene No.2: Valhalla Is Real

The Valhalla has been mentioned a million times in Thor as well as other movies. According to Norse mythology, Valhalla is a heavenly place where warriors who died in battle go to. In the movie, we finally get to see what Valhalla really looks like.

In Thor: Love and Thunder, the final post-credit scene saw the Mighty Thor a.k.a Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) in Valhalla after dying during the battle against Gorr the God Butcher. Technically, although her demise was caused heavily because of her stage 4 cancer, Jane Foster gave her life for Thor and the Asgardians. We also saw the return of Heimdall (Idris Alba) as the former Asgard gatekeeper welcomed Jane in Valhalla.

What does Valhalla have to do with the MCU?

For starters, Valhalla is a realm similar to Ant-Man’s Quantum Realm, Shang-Chi’s Ta Lo, and Thanos’ Soul Realm. All of these are otherworldly dimensions in Marvel’s universe only these places can be accessed through death or an ultra-secret way.

This is the answer to the question – “Is there really life after death?”. At the beginning of the movie, the God whom Gorr prayed to told him that there is no “Eternal Reward”. Instead, all of the God’s supporters were just meant to sacrifice themselves. After that, all of them will just … die. Fortunately, Jane Foster joining Valhalla means that there is definitely life even after men die.

MCU is suiting up for Phase 5 while Phase 4 is already getting established as we speak.

The whole Marvel Cinematic Universe is constantly expanding with Kevin Feige and everyone in Marvel continues to deliver the best superhero movies. From Spider-Man: No Way Home, Dr. Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, Shang-Chi, and Disney+ series like Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, Loki, and WandaVision, everything is just getting started.

We already saw the introduction of the multiverse as well as the realms hidden just beneath us, but, there are hundreds more that we haven’t seen. Some of the previous movies we have mentioned may have been a setup for upcoming movie ideas like Avengers: Secret Wars, Young Avengers, World War Hulk, and many more.
