Participants of the Valorant Champions Tour 2022 have not only been battling against each other in a gunfight but they’ve also been battling with a bug. A stomach bug, to be specific. During the Valorant Champions Tour 2022, players like Austin “Crashies” Roberts got hit with food poisoning which has fans asking, what did he eat to get sick?
Moreover, Crashies isn’t the only player affected by food poisoning. Since the VCT 2022 began last August 31, players from all teams have shared that they have had food poisoning.
What exactly is going on in Istanbul? Read on to find out the latest news about the VCTs.
OpTic Gaming’s “Crashies” battles through food poisoning during the Valorant Champions Tour 2022
- In their latest series against Team Liquid, Crashies had a tough time trying to remain in his chair. This was revealed after their 2-1 victory against Team Liquid when Crashies’ teammate, Jaccob “Yay” Whiteaker tweeted out congratulations to his team.
- In his tweet, Yay gave Crashies a shout-out for being able to power through food poisoning during the Valorant series. Yay revealed that in between their matches, Crashies has been throwing up.
2-1 vs @TeamLiquid

- This had fans worried since a few days ago, Pujan “FNS” Mehta, OpTic Gaming’s leader came down with something, too. Thankfully, OpTic and its members were strong enough to get through the whole ordeal of their members getting sick.
- But of course, Crashies showed up despite the food poisoning. In their recent series against Team Liquid, Crashies got a 41/39/20 KDA. However, the series victory wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for his teammates like Yay.
During the series, Yay got a 69/40/10 KDA, standing out when the teams played on Ascent. On this map, Yay got over 30 kills alone which helped OpTic deliver a loss to Team Liquid.

Thankfully, Crashies has enough time to recover as their next game is scheduled on September 12, 10:00 AM (PT).
Players and staff are coming down with food poisoning at the latest VCT 2022
Since the Valorant Champions Tour 2022 started, it’s been nothing but a rollercoaster ride for the participants. OpTic isn’t the only team getting hit with the stomach bug; other players have also aired out their grievances online about getting sick.
Some players also shared that they had to go to the hospital to get treated since the food poisoning was really rampant. Even matches had to be delayed. One example of this was when FunPlus Phoenix and XSET were scheduled to go head to head.
Ardis “ardiis” Svarenieks then shared that he was at the hospital after the delay was announced. Additionally, one of the casters at the event has shared that this VCT “has been a cursed event so far“.
At the hospital 🙃

At the moment, there is no official statement yet from the organizers as to what is causing all the food poisoning. Some fans speculate that the tap water is the culprit of the sickness.
However, players at the Valorant Champions Tour 2022 say this is not causing food poisoning since the organizers deliver water bottles to their rooms.

Nonetheless, we hope the VCTs go nowhere but up from here. It’s especially hard for players to stay in their best shape if there is a stomach bug going around. Hopefully, there won’t be any more cases of food poisoning as we near the end of the Champions Tour.
