Netflix released a documentary, Anna Nicole Smith: You Don’t Know Me, exploring the life, death, and all things in-between of the late model and actress. The documentary of the Playboy star touches upon many events of her life, including the custody battle of two men over her daughter after she died in 2007. One of them is Anna Nicole Smith’s ex, Larry Birkhead.
According to Netflix, the film aims to offer a ‘humanizing examination’ of Vickie Lynn Hogan, better known as Anna Nicole Smith‘s life, beginning from her appearance on Playboy cover in 1992 to her untimely death in 2006 and exploring her American dream life. However, her ex Larry Birkhead says the project is ‘overwhelmingly poor’.

Lousiana, Kentucky-born Larry Birkhead is a graduate of the University of Louisville with a degree in Journalism. He pursued his passion for photography right after completing college, and that choice played a significant role in matchmaking of his with Anna Nicole Smith.

- Following the tragic and untimely death of Anna Nicole Smith, Larry Birkhead ended up in a legal battle for the custody of his and Smith’s daughter Dannielynn. He stood against Howard K. Stern, claiming to be the biological father of then-5-month-old Dannielynn, and won the case through a DNA test.
- Birkhead has remained single ever since, although he has confessed to US Weekly that his daughter often urges him to date. Recalling an incident, he shared that one-time Dannieleynn insisted he brings a date to a party. He couldn’t help but laugh, which only made her insist more.

Larry Birkhead has appeared in several documentaries about his late girlfriend, Anna Nicole Smith, including Life After Anna. He has also talked about her ‘almost split personality’ during an interview with ABC News. He shared that Anna Nicole was a completely different person to him than on camera.
- “Because when the camera was rolling, she was a whole different thing… that was more, to me, an act than it was the real person, who she was,” Larry Birkhead said.
- However, for several reasons, he declined to appear in Netflix’s latest documentary Anna Nicole Smith: You Don’t Know Me. Birkhead shared that he didn’t want his 16-year-old daughter and Anna’s only-surviving child to appear in an ‘overwhelmingly poorly reviewed’ documentary of her mother.

- He further criticized that some people working on the project could invent things and rewrite history. Birkhead confessed that he is looking forward to a true Anna Nicole Smith project that showcases her own perspective through the people who actually knew her.
- “Because [Anna Nicole Smith] deserves better, and that day will come,” Birkhead said to Entertainment Tonight.
- The documentary Anna Nicole Smith: You Don’t Know Me is currently available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
