Why is Noah Schnapp being Compared to Melissa Barrera? Actress’ Controversial Social Media Post Explained

Noah Schnapp is again trending; this time, it’s because he is being blatantly compared to Melissa Barrera. Netizens can’t help but see the huge difference between the two after Barrera gets axed from Spyglass Media’s Scream 7 due to her social media post about the Israel-Hamas conflict. So, what is this comparison all about, and what did the actress say?

The Comparison Between Noah Schnapp and Melissa Barrera

Fans can’t help but compare Noah Schnapp and Melissa Barrera, considering they both post about the Israel-Hamas conflict. But contrary to what happened to Barrera, Schnapp has kept his projects and is even unscathed, facing no consequences however controversial his posts are.

Schnapp has been trending on X (formerly Twitter) as many netizens question the firing of Barrera over her post to support Palestine.

Recently, the actor once again made noise after a video of him with a group of people engaging with pro-Zionist paraphernalia went viral. The 19-year-old could be seen smiling, laughing, and having fun while recording the scene on his own mobile phone. The people around him were holding up stickers that had the words “Zionism is Sexy” and “Hamas is Isis.”

As many found Schnapp’s activity insensitive at the time the ceasefire between Israel and Gaza was widely called, they wanted the Stranger Things star to be boycotted and removed from the Netflix series. However, Schnapp faced no consequences more than a week after the video went viral.

Compared to Barrera, who made a series of posts about the Israel-Hamas conflict on her Instagram Stories, she was quickly dropped from Scream VII.

Melissa Barrera’s Controversial Instagram Post

Melissa Barrera made a series of posts to address the Israel-Hamas conflict that quickly turned controversial.

“Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp,” she wrote in one of her posts. “Cornering everyone together, with nowhere to go, no electricity, no water … People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”

She also made a stand for her Jewish friends and empathized with their fear and pain, revealing children and innocent Jewish people were dying. “Palestinian children are dying and have been dying for decades,” she continued.

She then questioned why the brown people were called terrorists while the white governments that were acting the same were not.

In another post, Barrera stressed that Palestinians are not Hamas and Jewish people are not the Israeli government, asking everyone not to blame and hate a group of people because of what others were doing. “I stand with all those caught in the crossfire. I pray for freedom and peace for you and your families,” she added.

Though Barrera just voiced her opinion and showed her support for the war’s victims, some found her posts antisemitic. It was also said to be why she got fired from Scream VII.

Melissa Barrera Fired from Scream VII

Deadline reported that Spyglass Media, which started producing Scream movies from the fifth movie, dropped Melissa Barrera from Scream VII. The sources told the outlet that the firing had something to do with the “reposts” in her Instagram Stories that were seen to be “antisemitic.”

“Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech,” the company said in a statement.

The seventh movie’s director, Christopher Landon, also weighed in on the issue, clearing that the decision to fire Barrera wasn’t his.

“This is my statement: Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make,” he said.

Though details about the new film are scarce, Barrera was said to be set to reprise her role as Sam Carpenter, the sister of Jenna Ortega’s Tara Carpenter.

With this firing of Melissa Barrera, fans can’t help but ask why Noah Schnapp and other celebrities who have supported Israel have remained employed and protected. Even Susan Sarandon who made comments at a pro-Palestine rally in New York, was dropped by her agency, UTA. By the looks of it, as the war between Israel and Hamas continues, the division of people’s support intensifies.
