Will Logitech’s Gaming Handheld be better than the Steam Deck?

Logitech has officially announced that they are releasing a gaming handheld next month and it’s going to focus more on cloud gaming. Now that it’s out there with a release date slated for next month, gamers are asking: will the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld turn out to be better than the Steam Deck? In this article, we’ll be comparing both devices to reach a verdict on which one is better.

In the fast-paced world that we live in today, portability is a must when we’re looking for the latest gadgets. We can say the same thing about gamers since the popularity of portable devices is on the rise. Now that Logitech is dipping its toes in releasing its own gaming handheld, Valve’s Steam Deck may have gotten itself a worthy competitor.

Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld vs. Steam Deck

Valve announcing the Steam Deck sometime around last year was revolutionary, to say the least. With the Steam Deck, gamers could now play their favorite PC games anywhere they want without lugging around their heavy gaming set-up. Although we can already play games on the go with devices like the Nintendo Switch, Steam’s large library of games is one of its selling points when it comes to the Steam Deck.

As the Steam Deck becomes available in more and more areas, Valve is also working on bringing more games to the device. That is to say if Logitech’s gaming handheld device doesn’t beat them to it first.

From what we know so far, the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld is looking to be one of Steam Deck’s worthy rivals. We’ve listed below some of the ways that Logitech’s device beats the Steam Deck.

1. Display

If we compare the display of the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld to the Steam Deck, we already have an obvious winner.

  • Although both devices feature a 7-inch screen, the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld beats Steam Deck with its 1920 x 1080 resolution
  • You’ll get Full HD with the Logitech G Cloud Gaming. This is better than the Steam Deck’s HD resolution of 1280 x 800

2. Battery

One of the most important aspects of any handheld device you buy is its battery life. Since you want something to be portable, you also want its battery life to last you a while before you need to plug it in.

  • Portable gaming devices like the Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck run on battery life most of the time, so you’ll want to get a bang for your buck.
  • According to Logitech, their G Cloud Gaming Handheld can run for over 12 hours.

That alone is impressive considering the titles you can play on this device, but we’ll get to that later. Since the Steam Deck estimates that its battery life can last from 2 to 8 hours, you should definitely consider the Logitech one if you don’t want to keep plugging it in from time to time.

3. Versatility

Logitech wants to focus on delivering a great cloud gaming experience for its users. Did you know that you can choose from a wide variety of games if you get your hands on the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld? Here’s what you have access to if you do get this device:

  • Xbox Game Pass
  • NVIDIA GeForce Now
  • Steam Link
  • Google Play

We mentioned that you can play a variety of titles on this device from Logitech. The Xbox Game Pass definitely amps up the gaming experience with the selection of titles it delivers to its subscribers.

Logitech’s gaming handheld device also comes with Google Play preinstalled. This means that you can download Android games and applications like YouTube on it. Talk about an all-around device!

Our verdict on which one is better

Though the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld beats the Steam Deck in the aspects we mentioned above, it’s undeniable that there is a stark difference between the two.

  • As previously mentioned, Logitech intends to focus on cloud gaming with this handheld device
  • On the other hand, the Steam Deck wants to make the entire Steam experience portable and on the go
  • The Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor which is commonly found in smartphones nowadays
  • Compared to the Steam Deck’s AMD APU processor, that’s a bit weak

But like we said, Logitech is focused on cloud gaming and they’ll utilize NVIDIA GeForce Now to bring the best gaming experience with their device. The final verdict on whether or not one device is better than the other entirely depends on what you’re looking for in your device.

If you’re looking for a device that can act as a tablet or smartphone while still satisfying your gaming needs, go for the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld. But if you’re looking to migrate your large library of Steam games, then the Steam Deck is your best bet.

You’ll also need to consider the extra expenses that come with both the NVIDIA GeForce Now and Xbox Game Pass.

The Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld releases next month in North America. For other regions, we’ll just have to sit back and wait on whether this next big thing from Logitech turns out to be a great buy.
