Target staff members were reportedly informed that Xbox Series X|S units can be listed for sale online instantly as stock becomes available, instead of waiting for specific drop dates.
Target is finally gearing up to accommodate Xbox Series X|S buyers to pick up their next-gen consoles in-store instead of waiting for units to be delivered, according to @Wario64 on Twitter. This campaign will kick off on Tuesday, May 18th.
Target employees have been notified that starting tomorrow (May 18th), Xbox Series S/X consoles can be purchased online for store pickup as inventory arrives (still not available to buy in-store). PS5 will continue to be sold online only on specific dates.

While inventory may differ from each location, this system will eliminate the need for buyers to queue for a drop. The moment your nearby Target store has supplies, Xbox Series X inventory will be visible on Target’s webpage. Instead of listening to rumors, keep tabs on the inventory at your local Target.
Limited-time Online-only Events
According to Wario64, this will not be the practice for PS5 drops. “PlayStation 5 will continue to be sold through limited-time online-only events,” according to the memo. This implies that it will not be accessible online right after your local store receives stock. The PS5 will remain available at Target on limited release schedules. The dates are unknown, not even the staff will know to prevent leaks.
Target staff members are also instructed to keep the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 in a storage area with surveillance cameras.
