YouTuber Dream deletes Face Reveal video: Is he quitting YouTube?

Dream is a legendary figure among the Minecraft community. His videos usually garner millions of views, especially during his peak as a creator. That was the case, until 7 months ago, when he did a face reveal which in itself gathered significant attention. The reveal resulted in severe negative reactions from his audience, mostly concerning the shape of his face. Aside from the comments supporting Dream for the face reveal video, there were those who made a joke out of it. Recently, Dream deleted the face reveal video and hinted that he may be quitting YouTube.

The most surprising fact is that the videos he released afterwards experienced a colossus dip in views. The three videos he released since were not even able to cross the 10 million mark while the most views he got was 6.5 million. This is particularly alarming for the creator when we weigh in that his videos, on average, used to get 30-45 million views and sometimes even reached beyond 100 million views.

After deleting the Face Reveal video, is Dream quitting YouTube?

The YouTuber recently released a video titled ‘bye, from Dream.’ from which many speculated about a possible departure of the creator from the platform. However, after analyzing the video we can assure that is not the case.

  • The video opens with Dream regretfully scrolling through the comment section of one of his videos accompanied by a somber background music.
  • Most of these comments can be seen poking fun at his face.
  • Shortly after, he hears a knock at his door and sees Nicholas “Nick” (Sapnap) and George Henry Davidson (GeorgeNotFound) entering the room.

  • These two fellow creators rant about the declining views and advise him to put the mask back on.
  • Upon hearing this, he decides to wear the mask but breaks down and rages by breaking his keyboard when he realizes that the headpiece is highly inconvenient as he can’t see through it.

New Mask, New Dream?

He quickly gains clarity and composes himself. Then, we see him emailing to a mask company, asking for a see-through custom mask.

  • What follows is a showcase of the mask making process and arrival of the package at Dream’s doorstep.
  • Later, he puts on the disguise and goes to a house where Nicholas and George were present. They seem visibly ecstatic upon seeing Dream with the mask and encourage his decision.
  • They further advise him not to take it off and cheers him up by saying now he can get his views back.
  • The video closes as we see the YouTuber getting food from a drive through wearing the mask while stating in writing that from now on he will be wearing it 24/7.

Meaning of the Video

Even though at a glance it might seem like a serious video, after watching it through we all can confirm that it is nothing more than usual YouTube content.

The video is obviously acted out by Dream and his friends and has a more light hearted tone to it. Despite that, we can get a hint of the direction that the creator is going to follow from now on.

  • He will most probably not show his real face in videos anymore and instead will use the mask.
  • He already deleted his face reveal video and it looks like Dream is taking extra steps in order to have netizens forget about his face.
  • He would also need to revamp his content and make it appealing for the newer generation of audience if he wants to get his former glory back.

Possible Reasons behind the Decision

While we are sure Dream can bypass the rude comments and memes, the steep decline in views is a serious problem for his career. His face reveal can be a major factor that contributed to this lack of views.

For years his audience were kept in suspense, and the disguise acted as both part of his persona and identity.

  • When he revealed his face to the internet, it sort of killed the mystery that kept his subscribers hooked on his content.
  • That is why we see musical artists like Daft Punk and Marshmello maintaining so much secrecy regarding their real face.

We also know Dream for his quality over quantity approach. But in YouTube, quantity also plays a big role in garnering views.

  • Putting out only 4-5 videos in a year certainly does not help his case.
  • Adding to that, we can see his most popular videos are one dimensional, particularly relating to Minecraft Speedrunner vs Hunter.
  • It is mainly a content style in which an extremely good player (Dream) competes against 3-4 average players. The newer videos he released afterwards that failed to get much views were totally different from this genre.

Conclusion

In our opinion, Dream’s latest video is a marketing tactic that can help him get back on track. We can also conclude that he cleverly uses the negative receptions as an excuse to put his mask back on, contrary to the belief that he actually caved in to the hate comments about his face.

While the mockery of physical appearance might not affect Dream, there are people who actually get upset and hurt. It’s always best to treat people with kindness — especially on the internet.
