Until Dawn 2 Release Date Confirmed for Early 2027

Until Dawn 2 finally has a firm release date after returning with a new trailer during PlayStation’s September State of Play. The horror sequel is arriving earlier in 2027 than some players might have expected, with pre-orders opening well before launch. Fresh footage also offers a better look at the new cast, setting and difficult decisions waiting for players. Among the top upcoming video game releases on PS5, this one is putting choice and consequence firmly back at the centre of the experience.

January launch confirmed

Firesprite confirmed that Until Dawn 2 will launch for PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027, following its initial reveal earlier this year. Pre-orders for both the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions begin on September 10, giving players several months to decide which version they want.

Sony’s latest trailer moves beyond the atmosphere of the original reveal and digs further into what the sequel is actually about. The story introduces Dead True, a team of fake ghost-hunting YouTubers searching for material for their supernatural channel, with a new cast taking the place of the original game’s main characters.

Before the real trouble begins, the crew investigates Blackwood Sanitorium while filming an episode about the tragic events that happened there 12 years earlier. New intern Izzy discovers something unexpected, setting events in motion that eventually take the group far from familiar territory.

Trouble on Akishima

Later in the story, Dead True meets supernatural attack survivor Yoona at HorrorCon in Sydney. Her warning sends the crew towards Akishima Island, a remote South Pacific location abandoned after a luxury resort mysteriously closed during the 1970s.

Their staged scares soon give way to something much more dangerous after the crew reaches the island. Centuries-old secrets and supernatural threats await, while the branching structure means choices can determine who makes it through the night.

One sequence has Owen choosing between following a signal towards his missing friend Nate or crossing a dangerous bridge to investigate a suspiciously lively bar. Another puts Mina in a bizarre ritual involving the crew’s chicken, forcing the player to choose between sacrificing it or potentially offering her own blood.

Those decisions bring back the formula that helped make the original such a memorable gaming experience. How well Firesprite handles the consequences will likely become a major talking point in future game reviews, especially with narrative choices playing such a central role.

AdHoc joins the story

Firesprite is developing the sequel, with Dispatch creator AdHoc Studio contributing to the story. Its experience with choice-driven game development should complement a narrative built around complicated relationships, sharp dialogue and decisions with serious consequences.

Pre-ordering either edition unlocks a classic Until Dawn outfit, an Akishima Island holiday outfit and collectible Dr. Hill bobbleheads. Digital Deluxe buyers also receive neon costumes for all eight Dead True members and Diorama of Death, which lets players revisit gruesome endings from different angles.

Diorama of Death is one of the more unusual gaming industry innovations included in the package, encouraging players to explore the consequences they might otherwise miss. With Dr. Hill returning and a new nightmare unfolding on Akishima Island, the sequel has plenty to distinguish it from other top upcoming video game releases.
