K-pop Nominations and Wins at the BBMAs 2023

Billboard introduced new winning titles for K-pop — for artist, album, and song categories. Huge names like BTS Jimin, TWICE, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, and FIFTY FIFTY were nominated for various awards. However, only four K-pop stars took home the trophies in this BBMAs 2023.

For the artist category, K-pop girl groups from different generations received the awards. The biggest girl group of the third generation, BLACKPINK, bagged the Top K-Pop Touring Artist,  with their recent BORN PINK World Tour. The four-member girl group won over JYP Entertainment’s TWICE and BTS’s member SUGA. On the other hand, we can consider that NewJeans is the biggest girl group of the fourth generation, as they won the Top Global K-Pop Artist award.

The powerful fourth-generation boy group, Stray Kids, earned the Top K-Pop Album with their 2023 release of 5-STAR. They obtained the trophy with tough battles with BTS’s Jimin’s FACE, NewJeans’ Get Up, TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION, and TWICE’s READY TO BE.

Along with NewJeans and their Super Shy and OMG stages, Stray Kids performed their S-Class and LALALALA tracks. The two groups are the K-pop representatives for the BBMAs 2023 performance lineup!

And of course, in the song category, the Top Global K-Pop Song went to Jung Kook ft. Latto’s July 2023 released track, Seven. Among all the nominees, FIFTY FIFTY’s Cupid, Jimin’s Like Crazy, and NewJeans’ Ditto and OMG, Jungkook’s debut single took home the golden microphone. Will there be more music award show wins for the golden maknae? Let’s wait for the following year-end awarding ceremonies in South Korea. Once again, congratulations, Jungkook!
