Netflix: Which One Piece Characters Could Debut In The Season 2 of the Live-Action Series?

One Piece characters that could debut in the season 2 of live action series

Have you ever considered watching the live-action adaptation of One Piece? Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece, One Piece manga, which started in 1997 and now has over 1,000 episodes, recently got its first-ever live-action adaptation from Netflix. Though a lot were reluctant about this adaptation, Netflix ate and left no crumbs. After One Piece season 1 concluded and left fans wanting more, which anime/manga character should make its debut in season 2?

Is Netflix’s One Piece worth the watch?

A lot of people have commended the live-action adaptation of the manga. One Reddit user even said, “Is it just me, or is the One Piece live-action so freaking good?” which kind of sparked different opinions from different users. Although there are some tweaks from the anime/manga, viewers were nonetheless hooked.

However, One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda, stated that “A live-action adaptation of a manga doesn’t simply re-enact the source material on a one-to-one basis: It involves really thinking about what fans love about the characters, the dynamics among them — and being faithful to those elements.” Oda was actually reluctant in creating a live-action adaptation, however, Netflix assured the renowned mangaka that they wouldn’t air the program until he had read the scripts and verified that “the material was being adapted in the right way.

Surprisingly, the project even broke the previous record held by Stranger Things and Wednesday as soon as it started streaming and quickly became the platform’s most-viewed show across the globe. Well, another comment most people have is the missing characters in the anime that haven’t shown up in season 1 yet. Let’s dig deeper and talk about the possible characters to be seen (and we should see) in Season 2.

One Piece characters that should appear in season 2

Portgas D. Ace

The biological son of the late Pirate King Gol D. Roger played a pivotal role in Luffy’s life. Ace was adopted by Monkey D. Garp, as had been requested by Roger before his execution. Portgas D. Ace, also known as “Fire Fist” Ace, is Luffy’s sworn brother and the leader of the Spade Pirates. Ace also became the 2nd division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates.

Ace is a strong pirate who has the ability to control fire, as his monicker suggests. Moreover, he can also control every type of Haki, which is extremely rare. Ace could have been easily introduced in season 1 or even just a slight mention. However, it seems that Ace’s story will be better told in the second season.

Smoker

A Marine vice admiral and the Commander of the G-5 Marine base should appear anytime now. Smoker, the White Hunter, was first introduced as a captain in Loguetown, where he made it his mission to capture Luffy. He was later promoted to the rank of commodore due to the events in the Arabasta Kingdom. The final episode of season 1 of the live-action adaptation featured a teaser of the appearance of an unidentified character (although real fans already know who it is).

They’re puffing on a cigar while looking at the Monkey D. Luffy bounty sign. The character’s striking gray hair, together with the appearance of two cigars on their right hand, strongly suggest that this is indeed Smoker. Without a doubt, we will be seeing him come season 2.

Crocodile

“Desert King” Sir Crocodile is the former president of the mysterious crime syndicate Baroque Works, formerly operating under the code name “Mr. 0”. Crocodile worked with Nico Robin, formerly known as “Miss All Sunday,” operating as his Vice-President and partner. He is the main antagonist of the Arabasta Arc and the Arabasta Saga overall.

The One Piece live-action adaptation has created a theory canon on Crocodile’s backstory. What truly piqued fans’ interest, however, was a scene, which was also approved by Oda, that purportedly canonized one of the community’s most popular theories. Indeed, based on the first episode of One Piece Live-Action, it appears that Sir Crocodile was formerly a woman, as many readers have long suspected. However, this is yet to be proven, so we speculate that Sir Crocodile is among the characters to be present in One Piece Season 2.

Nico Robin

Nico Robin,  also known by her epithet “Devil Child” and the “Light of the Revolution,” is the gorgeous archaeologist of the Straw Hat Pirates and one of the Senior Officers of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. She is the seventh member of the crew and the sixth to join, doing so at the end of the Arabasta Arc.

She temporarily left the crew during the Water 7 Arc but rejoined during the Enies Lobby Arc. It may have been too early for Robin to be part of Season 1 if based on the manga’s storyline, but it may be the right moment for her to be seen in Season 2, right? To give you an idea, Nico Robin first appeared in the anime’s 103rd episode. Obviously, it’s already a long way from the beginning when Luffy first started his crew.

Tony Tony Chopper

Will Chopper be in the live-action series? You betcha! Tony Tony Chopper, also known as “Cotton Candy Lover” Chopper, is the adorable doctor of the Straw Hat Pirates. Chopper appeared in the anime earlier than Nico Robin, making him the sixth official member. The toddler-sized human/reindeer hybrid first appeared in episode 81.

The biggest challenge of the live-action adaptation is how Netflix will portray Chopper in the series. Truly, it’s going to be tough for the show.
