Origins

Pavitr Prabhakar, popularly known as Spider-Man India, lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his Aunt Maya and Uncle Bhim. The family lived in a village before Pavitr managed to get a half-scholarship to pursue education at an esteemed institute in Mumbai. Bhim and Maya struggled to cover his expenses, but they were determined to give the brilliant boy a chance at a brighter future.

Life in the City

In Mumbai, Pavitr’s classmates bully and discriminate against him because of his roots. Fortunately, he finds solace in his friendship with the popular girl, Meera Jain, who became his only friend. Life in the city presented its challenges as it would to someone unaccustomed, but Pavitr perseveres. At the same time, he dreams of a yogi, who talks about powers and a great evil.

The Birth of Spider-Man India

Nalin Oberoi is a rich and famous businessman, who finally tracks down an amulet he was after for quite some time. Meanwhile, Pavitr is complaining about the constant bullying of his uncle Bhim. Bhim consoles him and says these are challenges he must overcome. He claims that these challenges make him stronger and that one day he will be able to help the world. Bhim adds, with great power, comes great responsibility.

On the other hand, Nalin Oberoi awakens the amulet in a laboratory and this turns him into a green monster.

One day, as Pavitr is running from bullies, he is stopped by the Yogi he keeps seeing in his dream. The Yogi informs him that every age presents an evil monster, and an incarnation of God to conquer this evil. However, the present age has no incarnations of God, and hence, a man must rise up to face this great evil. He then gives Pavitr his Spider-Man powers.

A Tragic Lesson: The Death of Uncle Bhim

After a few hours, Pavitr wakes up on top of the Gateway of India. Soon he discovers his powers, and before long he is swinging across the city. During this, he sees some goons harassing a woman, but he ignores them. But his spider-senses tingle, and when he looks back, he sees that Uncle Bhim tried to help the woman. However, the goons mortally wound Bhim in the process. He quickly disposes the villains but it’s too late for Bhim. His uncle’s words echo through his head, “With great power, comes great responsibility.” He then continuously fights evil and thus starts a new chapter of Spider-Man India.

Diversity in Superheroes

Spider-Man India’s introduction marks a significant shift in the world of superheroes, bringing much-needed diversity to the mainstream. As fans across the globe follow the Spider-Man from Earth-50101, they are constantly reminded that great powers and subsequently, great responsibilities transcend any and all boundaries.

Shub-Man – Voice acting against widespread criticism

Many fans are worried about the voice acting by Shubman Gill. This is because he is professionally a cricketer and not a voice artist. They are concerned that this marketing campaign by Sony to woo more audiences might backfire, leading to poorer production quality.

However, against all obstacles, Shubman seems unfazed. He is excited about his new opportunity to swing across the hearts of many young Marvel fans. Fans have started calling him Shub-man, an apt nickname for someone voicing Spider-man India.

Conclusion

It remains to be seen if Shubnam is able to shoulder the massive expectations of both his and Spider-Man fans. Tiger Shroff flawlessly voiced Tom Holland in the Hindi dub of “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. This earned him praise and respect from Tom Holland himself.

Spider-Man is definitely one of the most popular franchises at Marvel, and butchering this job could lead to serious outrage. At the same time, if he is able to voice Pavitr satisfactorily, that should potentially open up new horizons in his professional career.
