Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse second trailer breakdown
Have you had the chance to check out the new trailer which just dropped? If you haven’t yet, check it out below!
The trailer starts out pretty simple. The movie’s protagonist, Miles Morales, introduces himself to the viewers again while a quick montage of him doing Spider-Man work, being a high school student, and being a son to his parents flashes on-screen.
We are also introduced to the supposed antagonist of the movie: The Spot. This certain villain looks harmless compared to the villains we’ve seen in the Spider-Man franchise so far. However, don’t be fooled as The Spot is capable of opening up inter-dimensional portals with just a flick of his hand.

Of course, the action doesn’t stop there as we dive headfirst into meeting a group known as the Spider-Force. As is Miles’ luck, the group faces a new threat just as he is introduced to them.
Miles meets more Spider-People
Aside from Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Woman and Peter B. Parker’s Spider-Man, one of the most important Spider-People encountered by Miles is Spider-Man 2099. It appears that Spider-Man 2099, also known as Miguel O’Hara, is at the helm of the Spider-Force.
- Miles, being the young superhero that he is, looks excited to join the team. O’Hara, looking very disgruntled and stressed in the trailer, cautions Miles against taking on such a very big responsibility.
- The Spider-Force is given the task of protecting the Multiverse. Because of this, it doesn’t come as a surprise that O’Hara doesn’t want Miles to recklessly join the club.
Is O’Hara a bad guy in the new movie?
One would think that O’Hara’s Spider-Man 2099 is a bad guy. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case since all he wants is for Miles to think first before committing himself to the Spider-Force.

To quote his character in the trailer, “Miles, being Spider-Man is a sacrifice… you have a choice between saving one person and saving every world.”
Miles tries to reason out with the older Spider-People and tells them that Spider-Man has the ability to do both. However, even Peter tells Miles himself that if it weren’t for personal sacrifices, they wouldn’t be able to “save every world.”

Because of the chase that takes place in the trailer, some would have the impression that O’Hara is preventing Miles from reaching his full potential as Spider-Man. However, it’s easy to see that this movie will shed more light on the boy’s growth and maturity. Maybe this is also Miles’ time to have his own Uncle Ben moment, who knows?

The Vulture is the Spider-Force’s biggest problem in Across the Spider-Verse
The ultimate threat that Miles and the other Spider-People have to deal with is The Vulture. Near the end of the trailer, we see Miles looking a bit beat up while still managing to talk to someone. His words, seemingly the highlight of the entire trailer, are filled with strength and determination to finally write his own story.
“Everyone keeps telling me how my story is supposed to go… Nah, I’ma do my own thing.”

Ahead of the sequel’s release, a third Spider-Verse movie has already been announced. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait long after Across the Spider-Verse is released to watch the third movie.
It will be exciting to see how Miles Morales’ animated trilogy will be shaped by the two upcoming movies.
