Disney+ reveals official premiere date for Marvel’s Secret Invasion: What we know so far about the upcoming MCU miniseries

The wait is finally over for Marvel fans as Disney+ just announced the official premiere date for the upcoming miniseries, Secret Invasion. MCU’s Phase 5 has not been off to the best of starts and Kevin Feige will be hoping to rectify that with the first show of the phase. The release date had been pushed back multiple times, but this one seems like it’s here to stay.

Ever since the Secret Invasion’s trailer dropped a few months ago in 2022, fans have been eagerly looking forward to Samuel L Jackson‘s return as the iconic S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Nick Fury. Featuring an ensemble cast and some acclaimed writer-directors, it is all set to become Marvel’s biggest TV show yet. The miniseries will be an important bridge that connects to the rest of the events in MCU’s Phases 5 and 6.

Confirmed release date for Marvel’s Secret Invasion miniseries on Disney+

Marvel’s Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney+ on June 21, 2023. It will consist of six episodes in total, which will stretch the season’s run till July 26. The show is set right in between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Marvels, both of which will be released in theaters.

While the initial plan was for a Spring 2023 release, the Summer launch is arguably a better decision as theaters will be occupied with some large-scale offerings. This includes films like Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One, Oppenheimer, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Therefore, Secret Invasion’s Summer 2023 release date gives it monopoly on Disney+ while protecting its other theatrical releases on hold. Loki Season 2 will premiere on the streaming platform a month or two after Secret Invasion’s run ends.

The cast and crew of Marvel’s Secret Invasion miniseries

Kyle Bradstreet is spearheading the team of creators for Marvel’s Secret Invasion miniseries on Disney+. He is best known for working as a writer and executive producer on the hit psychological sci-fi TV show, Mr. Robot.

Alongside Samuel L Jackson, the cast features some big names like Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Cobie Smulders, Ben Mendelsohn, Don Cheadle, Martin Freeman, and Kingsley Ben-Adir.

Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim is directing the six episodes, each 40-50 minutes long. Kris Bowers serves as the music composer for the show.

What we know so far about the upcoming Disney+ show

The premise of the show revolves around the Skrulls, a faction of shapeshifting aliens who infiltrate all aspects of life on Earth. Marvel’s Secret Invasion would uncover some of the events that happened during the Blip. The show seems to carry an overall vibe of paranoia and foreboding, as the treatment itself is more grounded and realistic.

According to Kevin Feige, the series will not try to match the scope of the Secret Invasion comic book storyline. This is because the latter featured more characters than even Avengers: Endgame

After a string of poor performers in the end of Phase 4 and the beginning of Phase 5, Marvel will be hoping to turn things around with the release of Secret Invasion on Disney+.
