miHoYo’s recently released gacha game, Honkai: Star Rail, has become a hot topic lately in the realm of turn-based hack-and-slash titles. With an impressive pre-registration count of over 30 million users, the game is thriving, with players eager to explore and experiment with its features. However, the latest hidden feature recently caught players’ attention: their ability to change the color of their name and bio in Honkai: Star Rail!
Eagle-eyed players seemed to pick up on this hidden feature through the dialogues. As you talk to NPCs and traverse the different areas in Honkai: Star Rail, you’ll notice that some words are highlighted in different colors. This emphasises whatever point a character tries to make in your conversation with them. Finally, players figured out how to access this by experimenting with different HTML codes in the game.
If you want to try changing the color of your name or bio in Honkai: Star Rail, check out our guide below! However, we’d like to give an early disclaimer that miHoYo has released a patch that might make this feature inaccessible.
How to change the color of your name in Honkai: Star Rail
If you’re only trying to change the color of your name in Honkai: Star Rail now, we hate to be the bearer of bad news. The mini-update released by miHoYo seems to have completely removed this feature from the game. However, there might still be some players in the game who have colors in either their names or bios. The only reason they were able to do this is because they applied the changes before the mini-update was released.

For those of you who still have colors in your profiles, don’t be surprised if they disappear over the following days! miHoYo didn’t want us to discover and use this feature in our profiles. Nonetheless, seeing players lucky enough to add color to their names in Honkai: Star Rail makes us feel slightly jealous!
Here is how they did it:
- If you wanted to change the color of your username to blue, all you had to do was enclose it inside HTML anchor tags. Here is an example: <a>USERNAME</a>
- After that’s applied, your username automatically turns blue, like you are linking to a webpage.
- As for player bios in Honkai: Star Rail, you weren’t restricted to what color you wanted to use. Because of the character limit in player bios, you could enter a color code and watch as it added the indicated color to whatever you wrote.
- To get the HTML code for your desired color, you can use this website.
- Players were also able to use other HTML commands. One of these is the strikethrough function. If you enclosed your bio or username with the appropriate HTML tags, you’ll see it in a strikethrough
like this.- The HTML tag is <s>USERNAME</s>. Unfortunately, miHoYo has also patched this out.
You can’t change the color of your name after the mini-update
It didn’t take long for miHoYo to receive word that players found this hidden feature. After all, tutorials on Twitter and other online forums started coming out left and right. When they caught on, they swiftly took action and released a patch that didn’t allow players to change the color of their name or bio in Honkai: Star Rail anymore.
Boo hsr why patch it, enstars allows bio and name color change and it's a slight fun difference when looking at ranks 😂 https://t.co/5E4SlZIPdh

Naturally, the removal of this nifty feature disappointed players. Even if you see someone on your friends list with color in their name, it won’t be long until that disappears.
- If you’re one of the players who tried this method out, we highly suggest you remove it yourself. The fact that miHoYo released a patch to remedy this means that it shouldn’t have been publicly accessible.
- This may also be considered an exploit of the game’s system, so it’s for the best if players don’t have access to it anymore.
Even if players find a workaround, we recommend not going through with it. You will only put your accounts at risk of getting temporarily locked or suspended. It’s better to be safe than sorry, especially if you’ve saved your Stellar Jades for Jing Yuan!
