India Becomes The 1st Team To Play 1000 ODIs

The Indian cricket team has created history by becoming the first-ever team to play 1000 ODIs.  The historic match was played against the West Indies in the series opener at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

Indian team played their maiden match on July 13, 1974, against England in Leeds. Since then the Asian giants have been the second most successful side in this format as they have won 519 matches out of the 1000 matches played. 431 times they ended up on the losing side with nine clashes resulting in a tie.

The road to 1000 ODIs has been fantastic.

The 1000th match is special for all but for Rohit Sharma, it’s more special as he begins an era of captaincy from the 1000th ODI match. Rohit had said it will be a privilege for him to lead the team on the historic occasion.

“It will be a historic moment as we play the 1000th ODI. I would like to congratulate all the players who have taken part in this long journey. It is an honor for me to lead the side in that game, it will be a privilege to lead the boys. Our journey has been fantastic over the years. So many players have tried to put their best foot forward, we will also try to keep raising the bar,” Rohit said in a video posted on BCCI.TV.
