The fan-favorite doctors are set to be back in the upcoming Hospital Playlist spin-off. But instead of seeing the original 99z, the prequel will tell a different story with a new set of main cast members, including the breakout star, Go Yoon Jung.
Will there be a Hospital Playlist Spin-off?
After two successful seasons, several media outlets claimed Hospital Playlist would have a prequel. The claim was confirmed in June after STARNEWS reported that the series would have a spin-off with the original show’s director, Shin Won Ho, joining the production team as its creator.
The report also revealed that the Hospital Playlist spin-off would tell the story of the original five characters, Lee Ik Joon, Chae Song Hwa, Kim Jun Wan, Ahn Jeong Won, and Yang Seok Hyung, during their college days. But this time, fans are about to see new faces as different actors are set to play these roles.
“It is true that there is a drama being planned with PD Shin Won Ho participating as the creator,” tvN said in a statement.
However, the network didn’t want to call this new project a “prequel or spin-off.” Instead, it dubbed it as a new drama. It also said that the show was in the auditioning process back then and in the early production stages.
Go Yoon Jung Stars in the Upcoming Hospital Playlist Spin-off
tvN officially announced that Go Yoon Jung will join the upcoming Hospital Playlist spin-off, which now has a literal title of A Life of a Resident That Will Be Wise Someday. Here, the Sweet Home star will play the role of a first-year obstetrics and gynecology student at the Jongro branch of Yulje Medical Center.
In addition, tvN revealed that the spin-off would depict the “realistic and relatable hospital lives” and friendships of the doctors and students at the university hospital. According to reports, the new series is set 20 years before the 99z became doctors.

Will there be Hospital Playlist Season 3?
After Hospital Playlist Season 2 wrapped up in 2021, fans can’t help but wonder if the five doctors’ story will still have a chance to continue in a third season. Their hopes remained strong after the show’s cast posted a reunion photo on Instagram in February 2022.
While on the set, the group donned their scrubs and coats, making fans more hopeful for a possible Hospital Playlist Season 3. Jung Kyung Ho first shared a series of snaps, followed by Kim Daemyung. So, does this mean there will be a third season?
Though Shin Won Ho earlier said that there were still a lot of stories to tell about the characters, a third installment is unlikely to happen due to the exhaustion of the entire production team. He even expressed the difficulties in deciding if they would continue the show.
“The original plan was to air in the same season across three years, but I told [the cast] that they are not tied up for the next season and that they should freely take on other projects,” he said, per Soompi. “I said if we happen to return later, we can do it then. There are no specific plans for Season 3 right now.”
The upcoming Hospital Playlist spin-off will be released in the first half of 2024. Hopefully, this one will be as interesting as the original series.
