Is Wuthering Waves the next Genshin Impact killer?

Is Wuthering Waves the next Genshin Impact killer - Featured

Wuthering Waves is an upcoming open-world game from Kuro Game Studio and ahead of its closed beta test, it’s already making waves in the video game scene. Although they are both completely different games, a lot of gamers have noticed the similarities between HoYoverse’s Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves. Of course, that doesn’t stop them from comparing the two and even dubbing Wuthering Waves as the next Genshin Impact killer. With that being said, how true is this statement? Let’s take a closer look at both games.

Wuthering Waves looks like the open-world version of ‘Punishing Gray Raven’

We’re pretty sure you’ve heard of Punishing Gray Raven in the past. It was Kuro Game Studio’s biggest project back then and right now, it is only playable on Android and iOS devices. Kuro ran into some trouble with PGR as they failed to meet some of the high expectations set by the gaming community.

  • Although PGR was successful in attracting and somehow establishing a community, it failed to keep them hooked. When we talk about mechanics of the game, it’s quite good, actually.
  • However, the story and characters weren’t enough to keep their players around which is why it’s not as talked about as other games like Honkai or Genshin.
  • It looks like they’ve taken their experiences with PGR and applied it to Wuthering Waves. The devs are a few days away from launching the game in closed beta (April 24), but footage from other content creators are making us all the more excited for its release.

  • The open-world environment of Wuthering Waves is already breathtaking, and we’re just approaching closed beta. What more can the devs achieve once they officially launch the game to the general public?
  • If you’ve been playing Genshin Impact for a while now, chances are you had the same ideas as we did when watching gameplay footage of Wuthering Waves. The similarities are definitely there, but it looks like Kuro is taking a different approach to their game.

Is it the next Genshin Impact killer?

Now that more and more people are learning about Wuthering Waves, the title “Genshin Impact killer” is being thrown around. However, is this actually true? Will Wuthering Waves successfully take the throne from Genshin Impact once it releases?

The answer is simple: Wuthering Waves is not the next Genshin Impact killer.

The whole idea actually just stems from communities involved in a fan war against each other. Call me biased, but I just don’t see Wuthering Waves killing Genshin Impact off anytime soon. Sure, there are tons of similarities in the two games. However, have you ever seen a game similar to Genshin Impact successfully become its killer?

Of course, I’m not saying that Wuthering Waves will be a bad game. I’ve already pre-registered to the game and am honestly looking forward to it because of how interesting the whole game looks. Yes, it bears resemblance to Genshin Impact in more ways than one, but it will still be its own game, no?

The whole “Genshin Impact killer” thing is starting to get tiring

Every time a game that looks remotely similar to Genshin Impact, some gamers are quick to dub it as the Genshin Impact killer. Kuro Game Studios themselves are not even claiming that they are the next GI killer, so why do fans insist on it?

If you’re a Genshin Impact player and you feel like you shouldn’t support Wuthering Waves when it comes out, have you tried looking on the bright side? If Wuthering Waves becomes Genshin Impact’s main competition, won’t that benefit us players? Certainly, it would push HoYoverse to make more unique content with their open-world RPG rather than the stuff we’ve been getting recently.

Fans of both games should really cut back on stirring up these pointless fandom wars. Honestly, Wuthering Waves is shaping up to be quite the impressive game so far. It’s not necessarily a Genshin Impact killer, but HoYoverse should definitely watch out for Wuthering Waves once it finally releases to the public.

With all that being said, I can’t wait to get my hands on Wuthering Waves. Right now, they have opened registration for closed beta tests that will start soon in the United States and Canada. Hopefully, they’ll open up more closed beta tests for other regions in the coming weeks.
