Kevin Durant Moving to Boston Celtics? Latest Trade Rumors

Kevin Durant requesting a trade was probably the biggest news this offseason. Everybody wants him, but it looks like no team can afford the former MVP. Previously, there were talks of trade rumors from the Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, Toronto Raptors, and many more. But, the most recent and arguably the most plausible offer was from a team that almost won the 2022 NBA championship – the Boston Celtics. Could (and would) the Celtics’ front office create a good enough trade package that may be able to bring Kevin Durant to Boston? Let’s find out.

THE INITIAL OFFER

The Boston Celtics management formulated quite an impressive package that would entice Brooklyn to give up their superstar, Kevin Durant. The initial plan was, in exchange for KD, the Celtics would be willing to trade Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, and added with some future picks. As expected, the Nets declined.

THE COUNTER-OFFER

However, they are somehow interested in a package that revolves around Jaylen Brown, only they want more. By more, we mean a whole lot more. The nets specified they want Brown and the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Marcus Smart, together with a bunch of draft picks, plus one more rotation player such as Payton Prichard, and Grant Williams.

The Brooklyn Nets’ asking price for Durant seems a bit over the top, but will the Celtics give in? KD is still in-contract with the Nets for four (4) more years. While it looks good on paper, Boston must take this as either a total win or a complete bust move.

Just a few months ago, you were playing great basketball, and although you were taking a huge beating, you did your very best. Fresh from stepping on one of the biggest stages in the NBA (i.e. The Finals), you thought you were supposed to lead the team and run it again next season. Now, you wake up and see your name on the internet as your “beloved” team is interested in trading you away. That’s what is happening to Jaylen Brown right now.

Surprisingly, the C’s had a deep playoff run. As such, they definitely want to do it again but they want the job finally done next year. That being said, they think that Kevin Durant could be the push Boston is looking for. The 33-year-old is still a force to be reckoned with even after suffering season-ending injuries in the past two years. His ability to score the ball is still unmatched and he might just be the missing piece in the garden. However, KD is the living embodiment of the phrase, “If you can’t beat them, join them”, as he always wants out every single time. It’s obvious that Boston Celtics want to win as soon as possible with a prime Jayson Tatum. Additionally, the team had just added some great players in Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari, who both can score off the bench.

Even though Durant is a generational talent, we can’t take away the fact that Brown has great potential and a high ceiling. He has been constantly averaging more than 20 points for three straight years and he is set to be an All-Star in the coming years. With that, this move means that the Celtics are willing to give up the young years of Jaylen Brown in return for a max of three years with Durant, that is if he ever stays with them (which we don’t think he will). It’s going to be tough, especially for Brown, going forward but business is business.

On the other hand, as Durant’s time with the Nets is nearing an end, so is Kyrie’s.

As bad as it sounds, there’s a great chance Kyrie won’t be suiting up for Brooklyn. That is if Durant gets traded. It’s fairly inevitable from the get-go. It’s not talked about very much but the Lakers are eyeing Irving as a replacement for Russell Westbrook.
