Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean CMT Controversy Explained | What happened?

Didi Luke Bryan left CMT over Jason Aldean music video dispute?

A satire website’s article claiming that country music star Luke Bryan has asked CMT (Country Music Television) to pull his music videos from channels went viral. The untrue story stated that Bryan is in solidarity with Jason Aldean after his latest release, Try That in a Small Town, was pulled off the channel.

The song’s music video, released on July 14, features looting, protestors clashing with police, flag burning, and a convenience store robbery. It highlights the lyrics of Aldean’s song that small-town residents don’t allow these actions within their limits. CMT confirmed that they are no longer playing the Jason Aldean track, but they haven’t shared any other updates regarding this.

Is Luke Bryan supporting Jason Aldean in the CMT controversy?

On Friday, July 21, satire news site Uplifting Today published a piece titled “Luke Bryan pulls his videos from CMT over Jason Aldean debacle: ‘Folks, it’s time for the Bud Light Treatment.'” The article is a comic jab at the controversies from its accompanying story.

  • The piece makes various comical claims, including the President canceling his CMT subscription in support of Jason Aldean.
  • The article also claims that Billy Ray Cyrus is writing a follow-up track of ‘Achy Breaky Heart‘ titled ‘Achy Breaky Cart‘ responding to a challenge from Luke Bryan. The song is allegedly about a dangerous run-in at a rural Walmart, hinting at Aldean’s MV.

Many netizens mistook the satire site as a news update and began sharing the headline through social media. Subsequently, fans and country music enthusiasts wondered if Luke Bryan and other artists were asking for the removal.

  • However, a representative of CMT confirms that neither Luke Bryan nor any other artists have requested to remove their videos. Billboard also reached out to Bryan’s representatives but didn’t receive any comments.

More fake and/or satirical news making rounds on the internet

Apart from the fake news of the Country Girl singer pulling out from CMT in support of Jason Aldean’s Try That in a Small Town, some other hoaxes are making rounds on social media. The parody site, Dunning-Kruger Times, posted that A Country Boy Can Survive singer Hank Williams Jr. has resigned from the CMT board.

  • Another story from the same site claims that American singer Blake Shelton has retracted a $30 million deal with the music outlet in support of Jason Aldean. This particular article penned by Flagg Eagleton concludes that ‘losing everything in a fictional story must be devastating’ confirming that the article is a satire.
  • The site is having a field day about Jason Alden’s music video by posting many more stories on the same theme, making various satirical claims.

  • However, the fans who mistook the headlines as news expressed their shock and confusion about the various artist’s troubles with the music outlet CMT. In a related update, Nashville‘s E3 Chophouse, where Bryan and Aldean are investors, have shared a Tweet that it will no longer play CMT at their outlet.

  • The Steakhouse also stated that they stand with Jason Aldean because they are a small town and demanded an official apology and the reinstatement of the music video on CMT. However, the claim that Luke Bryan is leaving CMT is completely false.
